I'm interested in importing a UEV 440 but can't seem to find out if they meet USA DOT regulations. Anyone have any info they could share?

You can look up info on RV DOT rules on-line or try RVIA is a national association representing RV manufacturers and parts suppliers who together produce more than 95% of all RVs manufactured in the United States. Over 500lbs GVW needs brakes, rear light must be DOT approved, It looks great. Good luck

I know it's expensive but I can also buy the Conqueror Companion from South Africa for much less. It's the same unit but the Australian version is a beefed up version (in many ways). The South African unit will do me fine and is half the price of the Australian. Just don't want it to get ceased by customs at time of entry into the USA.

Based on my over 5 year experience with Conqueror I would not buy from them, even as awesome as they are. I have had a Compact since '09 and have not even gotten as much as a return email from the SA hq. I did hear from Austraila, but as pointed out...expensive. There are lots of US options I would choose before this.

Thanks for the advise fubar.

I've looked at the US options but there's nothing quite like this. My wife doesn't like roof top tents or tents off the ground and I don't want a full travel trailer.
Do you have any suggestions for US models that might be similar to this?

If you are buying one of these ... do so knowing that there is no service available. I own a Conqueror Commander (SA) version.
Here is the deal: The SA versions are the original. The Australian is a franchised version and they are indeed optioning them out. Quite frankly, I don't need nor care for Flat Screen TV, or surround sound, or microwave, so I prefer the more primitive lack of options in the SA version.
The great thing about these trailers is the fact that if you have a little DIY skill, they are perfect for customizing and making them your own. (They are sort of like the Land Rover Defender of the trailer realm.)
There are others around the US wanting to import the SA trailers. We should start a page for those wanting to import.
There could be some common motivation and filling a container would certainly save on shipping.

Like Dendy said, neat trailers. But be ready to wrench on it yourself and adapt lots of stuff.
I had to rewire mine eventually when the charger shorted out. Wasn't all that hard really and I put in lighter/more reliable items.
And then there were the axle bearings.
And the tail light.

But they do drip with "cool".

Minx - I understand your frustration. My wife and all have been looking at all the options. We had a great time at Overland Expo checking out everything in the entire range. The closest things I have seen to what you seem to be looking for are the ADAK Trailers and the Moby1. AT teardrops are also awesome. In the end, we decided to refresh/update our Conqueror Compact. As others have said, there is work involved, but I continue to find that half the fun of the rig.

I looked into bringing over another Conqueror but the factory is not able to make the changes to meet DOT/Transport Canada specs. Some of the dealers were willing to make the changes necessary to comply but I am sure it would be spendy. In the end I went with a different company that could manage the changes and I ended up shipping a bunch of parts over to make it comply.

Cheers,
Jason
