Just stole this 2004 E350 with a 6.0L and less than 30k miles for $15k! Waiting to get a few answers from Chris and then expediting a kit to me!

Some of you might be able to help me on one of the questions I sent to Chris. Any of you running the Dana50 instead of the Dana60 on your conversion?

D50s are easier to find and seem stout enough for my purposes (I can always change it out later if I get more aggressive). I'm going to run 37" tires with a 8" lift, and mild off-roading in mind. I figured about 4.30 gearing to get as close to stock final ratio as possible. Any thoughts from those of you with a similar set-up would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty familiar with the tech and specs of these axles,

I want to be sure fitment of the modified knuckle from Chris wasn't affected (which I'm 99% sure of based on similar info to what you've referenced). I was also hoping for any actual experience with the D50 on a van. Really not to worried, as the F350 loads and the van loads are close enough in the front end anyways and those who complain about the D50 (essentially a D60 with D44 innards) beat the heck out of their rigs and I don't see myself doing so, yet...

I'm sure Chris will get me the info I need soon enough, but I figured it would be a good discussion in the meantime and maybe draw attention to this common part- sourcing issue. I'll post any info received from Chris as well.

I have another question thats answer might be useful to others as well. Why not use the NP273 t-case? From what I can tell, they're the same strength and external dims as the NP271. The 273 does have an extra syncro in order to have ESOF but that and some of the linkage seem to be the only differences.

No extra syncro that I know of, as they are basically the same T-Case except the casting for the ESOF motor to bolt on. Some guys have made conversions to shift them manually.

We use the 273 for its ESOF so there is no shift lever in the middle of the floor.

New Bumper for Vanzilla/Plan B

Hey, happy new year to everybody! Well, got a couple extra days and finally decided to bite the bullet and build a new bumper for the van! Used a piece of 2 x 6 " C-purlin i found behind the barn. Its a little redneck, but I don't have an extra grand lying around right now for a pro made bumper! And anyway, we Are from Oklahoma!

I prefer to be simpler & more durable with the manual shift 271. It's in 4wd, you know it cause you put it there. Our shifter puts the lever right next to the seat so it doesn't eat up too much space.

On the D50 question from earlier, nothing wrong with them. Not as many choices as the 60 in the limited slips & locker dept but they're good. You have to get pretty crazy to break one. Most recyclers & yards only see the 50's & 60's as "axles" so they're generally the same price so we go towards the 60.

Happy new year to everyone. '14 was good and '15 will be even better for the UJ crew! We're expanding and adding a few machines to make production more efficient and also boost our capacity so I can get some new things built. Exciting for sure.

Here's the Blue TX rig outside, we're finishing it up before next week. These aren't the correct wheels, needed to get it rolling so we could use the big lift for Black/Blue. 6" lift on 35's, love this luxury barge!

Here's a Stage 2 D60 w/RSC upgrade & 4.56 gears ready for the next van to come in the shop! (7.3 restoration)

And Black/Blue with its new ride height. We plumbed and wires a ton of stuff too.

And finally, Bruce in VA with his freshly DIY converted 5.4 rig. Super clean rig, love the look.

Depends on the year and the axle in the van. We either modify the existing axle (if it started life as a 99-04) or replace it (if its the older kingpin style 60) Once all of the Q parts are removed from the frame we install our hangers and go from there with UJ parts. What year is that rig you just got? Bring it by when you get it and we'll ck it out and take you for a spin in V5.
