For those wondering about towing:

I pull a 5000lb Airstream with my 6" ujoint setup with ujoint installed airbags. I just pulled it from NC to AZ for the West Expo and a 3 week loop through UT and CO. It pulls better than any vehicle i've owned, super stable, airbags keep the trailer nice and level. I like the stiff feeling of the airbags so much I keep air in 'em even when not towing. I only let them completely out of air when I need the extra suspension travel for off road use. I run an 8" adjustable drop hitch, maxed out at full drop, if I were to replace it I'd like to have one with more drop so I could lower it further if I had empty water tanks. More adjustment room will allow you to level the van and trailer based on how you have it loaded i.e.. gear, fresh water, grey/black water ect.

I have your same setup and run an 8" drop hitch. This works well with my trailer but I suppose trailer hitch heights vary.

That's probably about right, because 6" drop works well with my 4" lift. With a real heavy tongue, I'll go a little less drop to keep the trailer level (boat photo). Flat trailer is with 6" drop. My rig has "add a leaf" in the rear, and it tows perfectly.

Red SMB is going home, made a few changes to this SMB West conversion. New springs, shocks, our airbag kit, wheels & tires. It will probably be back for some 6.0 work and possibly a brake upgrade.

Beautiful!
Chris, what do you think of the 5.4's? How are they at turning a set of 33" or 35" tires;I am always half halfheartedly looking at vans and typically just scroll past the 5.4's out of fear that they don't have the power.

I had a 5.4 and its a great engine. 35's, 4.88's, worked great but I kept the build as light as I could. Depending on the transmission they can be a bit more $ to convert but the entry price is so much cheaper for the 5.4 rigs. We have several 5.4 builds coming up.

V7 mods have begun! Blasted and coated the rear bumper, buried the trailer plug and a flush mount Rigid, PC'd the receiver hitch, swapped out the tail lights.
