This will go down in history as the first time an AUS overlander has been jealous of a US available vehicle... :)

You are not going to get must sympathy from us, mister 70 series, Defender, Patrol, 105, hi-lux, everything available with a diesel guy :shakin:

Human nature ! all ways we like to have, what it is not available to us.
In my lits all ways was the Unimog, the Defender/Isuzu3.9 130 and the BMW R1150GS
I have A Disco Tdi300 and sold the R1150GS after a lot of enjoyment.
I guess that I have to make a compromise and chase a Defender 130 and forget about the Unimog
Then again the Canter for $A$ 30000 is not a bad proposition :jumping:

I love that big Orange Mog! I just called and left a voice mail for the salesman...

Even without knowing the price, I know I can't afford it. I would have to mortgage the house, and my wife would not like that ☹ But I bet is get better off-highway MPG than my 4Runner ☺

I'll have to tell myself it's not the right truck because it's only a regular cab instead of an extended cab. The wheelbase seems about perfect. I have driven plenty of full-sized regular cab long-bed trucks (131-135-in. wheelbase) into the backcountry, done some challenging trails and they didn't have near the clearance of this beast.

To stop the infatuation I must tell myself repeatedly that we will soon have cool factory diesel 4x4 options from Jeep & Toyota.

Redline. Why Jeep & Toyota are not available in diesel in USA?
To tell you the truth I became aware of this problem when I joined the Portal.
It is inexplicable to me
Make it a political issue for the next election :jumping:
Going to the issue of the Unimog, there is no question, it is a beautiful beast and here in Oz is too expensive.
Cheers

If I had the answer to that question I would be a fortune teller :) But I do think we are on the brink of a light-duty diesel break-through here in the USA.

Lets put it this way, If they are trying to sell it as new the price will be somewehere very close to what I paid for a 3 bedroom 2 bath 1600 SQFT house on a true 1/2 acre lot in Marietta GA (20 minutes from Down town Atlanta and on the good side of town) 12 years ago.

Its going to be $80k or more.

Yep, that's what I figure. It may be in great condition, but it's not 'new' with 8,700-miles on it. But 'new' wouldn't it have been well over 100k?

Anyone have the build sheet? From what I can tell from the ad, I bet it's at least $100K...it does have a snow plow afterall!

I called and left a voice mail for the salesman but didn't receive a return call.

It's not the right truck for a camper because its' short wheelbase. You can only put a 3.2-3.5m cabin on it instead of 4.5-4.8m. It comes standard with an 8' bed instead of an 11' bed.

What is wrong with a 3-3.5m cab? We lived for 9 month in a 3 x 2m camper box with no problems and i would rather go with the smaller box than going to a longer wheelbase.

Looking more closely at the picture, unless SD is experiencing drastic climate changes, I think we should see more 'white' than 'green.'

So I wonder if this pic is of the vehicle when it was new on the dealer's lot rather than its actual condition today....

For what it is worth, the description does say it has the remainder of the factory warranty available which leads me to believe that it may have been a dealer demo.
