Urethra, I've found it!: A BJ42

Alledgedly there are were only ten BJ42 imported into Indonesia. Today I saw one of them which is up for sale: a 1984, four-speed, power-steering, A/C rig with little rust to speak of. The 3B engine has about 165,000 miles (270,000 km) on it. What's the going price for such a BJ42 in your locales?

Ha! On the other hand.....Archimedes might well have exclaimed the above, seeing as how he was running naked through the streets of Syracuse...

Nonetheless- congratulations on your find. Eureka indeed.

I'm hoping this was meant to read "Eureka"...otherwise, we need to talk.

Hopefully that talk will entail setting him straight, not anything else. You can't be too sure these days, some people salivate to weird bells.

Good point. To clarify, a talk would entail a very brief textbook review of basic anatomy, an uncomfortable silence, and then a prompt transition into disussions of the benefits of purely mechanical diesels engines....

Did someone say simple diesel engine? I'm all in!

As for the original question, value depends....I'm sure a pristine BJ42 here in the states could fetch $15-$20K US pretty easily, but elsewhere....dunno....

I need in on this...

Congratulations on your find. There is one I know of locally and it's pretty rough (Rust holes through the body and so on). It's been for sale for over a year and was originally priced at 14 thousand. It's still for sale, last time I saw it, it was at 10k or best offer.

Post up if you buy it.

Had I known my weak attempt at humour and at elliciting some responses would only serve to distract from the issue....

That BJ42 is going for under $10,600. I can probably bring it down to $10k.

God I love the sound of that 3B. It sounds like a true diesel, like it means business, like a workhorse. What's 270,000 km (160,000 miles) to a 3B motor?

Subscribed... can't wait for you to take it on your expo to the Renal Pyramids. Maybe later to tour the Islets of Langerhans?

Now that was weak...

The 1984 BJ-42 came with a 5 speed in most markets. It had the special combo of 5 speed/power steering which makes it extra valuable. So if that one has a 4 speed, be sure to verify it actually is an 84, was factory built with the 4 speed or hasn't had a transmission swap.

For price, it really depends on rust and how much of the orginal is left. A lightly rusted example in excellent running condition should easily fetch over $15k. A pristine example will fetch mid $20's. Rust buckets are are $5 - 8K, less if the transmission has been changed.

I had an 84 BJ-42. The more time passes, the stupider and stupider I feel for selling it.

Thanks. I am bringing my mechanic to look it over today.
