Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

If you guys set up a date, let me know. I am still in a Honda Element, so I hope I don't cramp your style. I bought it hoping to have UM install the ecamper. DaveH already let us see his Ecamper on a Honda. It is very nicely made. But the Jeep might handle the family, dogs and gear better. The 675 pds payload capacity in the Element versus 1200 pds in the Jeep is a huge difference to me. If I jump to a Jeep, I probably will keep it pretty stock.

Modding Jeeps gets pretty addictive whether you want to or not. But you may have more restraint than me (and others). It's kinda like Vegas, there's a reason why the aftermarket manufacturers are in business.

I can't get this Ecamper out of my head. And the VW pop tops, I have heard, are just a mechanical break down waiting to happen.

An Ecamper on a Jeep isn't stock I know...

Other than that I am thinking basic side steps to get to the ecamper. Maybe some aluminum ones to keep the weight down.
Really good wet weather floor mats since I live in WA. Can a Jeep can be ordered with rubber coated instead of carpet? A trailer hitch bike rack. Hopefully the Jeep Sport will do the trick as far as suspension goes. An interior cargo net for mulitple reasons. Figure out if I can order a jeep without that huge sub-woofer in the back...it just takes up too much room. I am not interested in huge tires or crazy rims...I don't want to worry about trashing some rims. Gotta figure out if switching the swing open gate to a drop down tailgate would be a good idea. I know the spare tire would be in the way. ~Ok...now I am making a list!

Just want to get down some forest roads, over the mountain passes and would like to drive on the beach once in awhile. I just like to car camp with my kid and move to a different location every day exploring. Needs to be a DD and camping rig. The rain here has made me hate sleeping in a tent on the ground, waking up in puddles isn't fun. The Ecamper seems like a good solution especially when hotels aren't really my thing.

Amy, I think you'll be alright as long as you don't get crazy with wheels, tires and suspension. The stock setups work well if you don't mess with them a lot. When you start getting crazy, every modification affects another part. But if you keep the suspension and tires mostly stock it should be relatively reliable and simple.

If anyone wants to make plans to meet somewhere to poke around at the top Ill be sure to include you or to post it here.

For what it's woth weekdays are better for me I can do a Saturday morning if it is more convenient. Currently I haven't made up any plans for Friday the 26th or the morning of saturday the 27th. I'm not sure I'm much of a host but I'd be happy to let you guys crawl around in the jeep while I drink coffee somewhere!

Jeep Thingees

As of about Jan, Jeep moved the Alpine speaker system to the standard list. I just wrestled w/ trying to get one w/o it. Nada. OTOH, the rear woofer can be removed, along w/ the carpeted fender surround, and some local car audio shop can end that circuit w/ a small woofer-equivalent that can be installed up front (under seat).

I'm removing both rear fender surrounds and lining w/ better sound/temp insulation. Rear seat's coming out, too, for 12v NL refer/fzr, elec box/battery, and water.

If you just won't mess w/ it, the best bang for your buck on a new order is the Rubicon. It'll do stock 75% of everything the big girls and boys do w/ tricked out Jeeps. Keep same wheels, tires, suspension, etc. It's such a HQ vehicle that it's an off-the-shelf DD+off-roader for most people. Has massive amounts better resale power and value hold over Sahara & Sport. Besides, with the hood decal, you get to do the 1-finger wave and be recognized by all the other members of the so-called Rubiculture!

Im off on Fridays, so that is always a good day for me to go anywhere. I agree that my Rubicon has all you really need unless you want to go on big stuff. I have a Taraflex 2.5 Budget Boost on her now, but am looking at the AEV 3.5 lift in the future. I also have ACE rock rails that sit over the factory rails, I love the ACE rails.

Those of you who wanted to check out the top, would Friday morning work on April 26? Either that or the afternoon on Sunday the 28th?
My schedule filled up with extra training days and some four wheeling/camping trips, beyond that weekend the next good opportunity will probably be in June.

I would have to do a Sat or Sun since hubby works and the kiddo has school. Might not work for others though...

I'm here on the thread! After seeing Brian's setup on Saturday, I immediately headed to the Jeep dealership and picked up a Commando Green soft top Rubicon. Hoping to get my J30 on in the next few weeks. Keep me posted on a PDX meet-up at the end of month. I'll be there if I'm not out adventuring.

A girl named Anne Marie hunted me down in NW Portland today to check out the Jeep after seeing my wife and I drive by. Have to appreciate the enthusiasm! We thought there was a ticket on the windshield when we walked up! I know I have hunted down others before to check out rigs. She said that she is on the forum but I don't know if she's here and just lurking or actively posts.
If you're reading Anne, I have a set of rubicon springs and shocks that should be a small improvement over base or sport model springs and shocks, just sitting in my basement. I removed them at 700 miles. They are all yours if you end up with a Jeep soon. When you find a jeep for your j30 I'd be happy to help throw them on, or help installing the top if you need it.

Glad to hear, good luck getting it installed soon!

Okay so a Friday meet probably wouldn't work for many people.

How about Saturday, April 27, mid-late morning around Portland somewhere? I decided not to go wheeling that weekend anyway, short time at home and I have other projects to complete before I take my long vacation in June.

Ok... I'm ordering one for my Commando Green too! When it is closed is there enough space to leave a sleeping bag laid out flat?

Yes, small compressible sleeping bags should fit. My wife bought a massive two person bag that didnt fit, but our mummy bags fit just fine.
