Brian - bummer it's so hot. Head for Colorado and do the Alpine Loop. I like your awning. What kind is it?

- AM

The awning is a kijaro versa shade. About 15 minutes after they picture the wind bend/broke the poles and destroyed it. Not recommended for much more than a light breeze. Disappointing.

Heading to Bryce Canyon tomorrow probably. Ran the fins n things trail this morning. Straight up and down a few spots it seemed, scared my wife a little but it was a fun, fairly easy run.

I disagree about taking a trail as well. I bought the jeep and j30 to make things more simple and take less crap. In reality I have plenty of extra space, I just like to be very organized and keep things stuffed away. Nothing so much as shifted on the trails which is my goal. Now with a kid or two, a trailer might be worth considering.

I only mentioned a trailer because of the poster mentioning traveling with his wife and dog. I suppose all wives and dogs are different but even though my dog is a great traveler he would need a bit more space. Dog's can't really sit in the same spot for long periods of time, they need to move around.

Ah, yeah, I just meant for me I guess. ;)

A couple randoms from today. Still having a hard time getting my wife to get out and take pictures on the steep ledges and climbs so these are a little boring. Haha

Have you considered getting a black decal made to go where the outline of a window is on the top? I think that would make it much less noticeable to the untrained eye that your Jeep is more than just a regular Jeep.

I finally got my top. Picked it up from the shop and drove down to Mexico for the Baja 500. My top is all standard except that I had Ursa wire in 4 - Rigid Industries A-Series warm white low intensity LED's instead of the normal Ursa lighting. I am very pleased with the lighting. It's bright and draws very little power. Here are a few pictures.

Very cool, congrats!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine so far!

I think I need to add a second battery and a 12v power supply "upstairs". A fan up there would have made a huge difference the last few nights.

My dog has the whole back seat - the floorboard space is taken up by bags so she doesn't fall through - and I have a dog seat cover that her bed sits on. The back cargo area is taken up by our stuff. At night she usually sleeps on her bed on the nack seat w/o complaint, but from time to time she has come up into the top to sleep for a while. A little cramped but not bad.

I passed a J30 heading south on highway 30 towards Portland on my way home tonight. I wasn't in my Jeep but it looked like Cobblecrazy's jeep. Are you in Portland?

Unfortunately no. Playing around in the Sierras. Oh, and I just added a little something for when we're "base camping/exploring".

We had looked at purchasing one of these when I was getting the J30. Cost new was a little out of the budget at the time. Found a 2010 used and although I'm not a huge fan of towing stuff, and a few posts ago I disagreed with needing to have a "trailer" for expedition travel, we just couldn't resist. I'm still sold on the traveling with the J30 alone, and even with the teardrop I think we can limit the amount of stuff we bring, but there were some things my wife wanted to make those extended stays more comfortable. We will be able to use an ARB refrigerator in it, and in the J30, as well as the Partner Steel stove we're having installed.

Well, just thought I'd share...

I've been told there one in the area that looks like his. Someone on another forum told me that he saw it in Salem, no idea who it is.

Nice trailer!

The last two days I drove from Vegas to Bakersfield CA, then to Eureka CA. Somehow I managed to end up with a 30-40 mph headwind on both legs. Wide open throttle for hours and hours in fourth and fifth gear. Re-gearing is back on my mind again....

Factory 4.10 gearing with the six speed. I'm not sure if I want 4.56 gears (slightly slower than stock tires) or 4.88s (which will probably hurt fuel economy a little more). During good conditions I still get 16mpg in town and 15mpg highway. However the last 600+ miles have been closer to 12mpg.
Most of the highways in Oregon are 55-65mph and it works okay there. But this thing just doesn't like to maintain 75-80 on anything more than flat ground with no wind.
I still laugh at the people who are saying that the 3.6l is amazing and super powerful. I guess it's all relative and depends on what you're coming from.
