Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

Great information here and many questions are being answered.
Is there any feedback on the ActionCamper?
Wouldn't mind just buying the shell.

Sorry if this is a hijack.

The action camper is a great design for those who like the cabover camper but also like the Jeep platform. However, you don't retain the reasons I purchased a 4 door (4-5 passenger) vehicle, and I prefer the simplicity of the design of the J30. At almost a $25,000 difference, I would choose the J30 every time. Even with my recent purchase of the teardrop, I'm only into the top/teardrop combo for about $12K.

Cobblecrazy,
Thanks for your excellent feedback.

Thinking about my answer while driving today, and I should have included the option of the Phoenix pop up http://phoenixpopup.com/phoenix-pop-up-for-jeep/ At $13,000, this might be an option if you are considering this type of camper. Here's a link to a thread on the Phoenix campers on this forum http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...Phoenix-Pop-up/page11?highlight=phoenix+pulse look at post #104 for interior pics.

Hope this helps...

Rear sliding windows with screens would be an awesome addition to the Ecamper especially while traveling with dogs or if someone wants to sleep "downstairs". I also like the idea of U bolt tie down points like I have seen on the Element Ecamper version. ~I will just keep saving and hoping.

Has anyone heard about awning mounting brackets from Ursa Minor?

I emailed John this weekend but haven't heard anything back.

I talked to John about this when I had the build done in April. I am using the Kelly carport (PITA to set up.). I mounted a couple of stainless steel marine straps (west marine) to the rear shell. The carport has Velcro straps that loop thru the SS straps. Works pretty good.

Not sure if anyone from UrsaMinor follows this but how bout putting these as an option for the rear windows.

Have a J30 pending that we'll install similar windows on, but it's a bit back in the back-log so no photos any time soon.

Ah...sorry, I was on vacation and returned to the overflowing in-box that still is a bit deep! Here's an awning prototype on the company J30, we showed it at Overland Expo and have been finalizing the details now that I've had a chance to use it a bit. We should have this up on the website shortly.

Cheers
John

No worries, I figured with multiple companies and a new baby, you probably had your hands full.

I thought about having a friend fab some brackets and backing plates but it probably makes more sense to buy something that's tried by the guy who built the top... ;)

Would a rear awning work in the same manner?

Figured I would post a few more phone pictures from my summer travels. Way behind on pics and I don't know if I'll ever get around to making trip reports, but anyway... Having a blast with this thing!

We really didn't get out much during my time off this month. I came home early for a funeral and it cost a lot of money in lost work, flight changes, time driving etc. Hopefully we can get out a bit next month again but the wife's work schedule is a but tough lately.
