using air and foam sleeping pads together...

I sleep in bed of truck. It is plastic bed liner. I have thermarest air pad and Teton sports foam pad. Is it warmer to have foam pad down first then sleep on air pad or the other way around? I am trying to maximize the warmth I can get sleeping in very cold weather. Thanks

In winter climbs what worked for me was air pad on the floor and the close cell foam pad on top.
ccf pad may not retain body heat that well, but it won't transfer it away from your body. An airpad (depends on its "R" value) will keep depliting your body of heat.....

With that said... best thing is try it out there and see what works best for yah....

Foam on top. You need that insulation between you and the cold air that comes through the air mattress

Another vote for foam on top, air pad on bottom.

I also have put a thin wool blanket over the closed cell foam pad, seems more comfortable to me that way.

Ok great. That is the way I have been using it. I'm sleeping down into the teens and single digits so just want to maximize warmth and wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong to lose heat. Thanks.
