The Scanguage II is the only reason why I knew I had a cooling problem the stock gauges does not move at all till 230F. Well Well worth the $149!

My '92 3FE runs great on 87octane.

Does anyone know if the temperature gauge is an issue on a '92?

Can a Scan Gauge be installed on this model year?

My 80 has been completely de-smogged and the cat has been removed.
CEL runs "full time".

I recently installed a new radiator on it at 174K miles...has 177K miles now.
It wasn't overheating...it was the stock radiator and was looking it's age.

Sorry for the hi-jack

Pretty certain Scan Gauge won't work for a '92. US-spec Cruisers were not OBD-2 compliant until mid-95, so it will only work for some '95 models and then '96 on up.

My old 93 with 280K+ miles never pinged on the 85-87 octane.

My 97 loves the cheap stuff. Never met a gas station it didn't like. But I don't fill up when there's a tanker truck refilling the station. That's like the kiss of death.

All of the folks who claim the 1FZ-FE should be fine on 85/87 octane appear to all be in cold or moderate environments. The 1FZ is a pinger in high temps. I always ran high-test when ambient temps >90F. On a 120F+ day, running 85 octane and she'll ping good under load.

You will want to track down and solve your 3FE CEL problem. You're ECU won't map correctly and give you bad results.

It gets plenty hot here in N. VA--not desert hot--but I don't have any issues. I saw several 1fz powered 80s in Kuwait that seemed to handle the high temps, but I don't know what gas they were running.

Something also to remember is outside the US in hot climates Toyota had the fan hub filled with higher viscosity fluid, a greater parasite to engine power, but in the US likely helped out emissions. World-spec also had an electric front pusher fan which is absent in the US, though likely negligible help during driving.

You can buy the OEM higher viscosity fluid from Toyota and r&r the fan hub to help.

You can also change the fluid in fan clutch very easily. Different viscosity fluids are available at hobby stores. They are used in RC cars, ask for silicone fluid.

You obviously didn't sit in 3 hours of flippin' commute traffic on 95 this afternoon... I'll take the Udairi Training Range any day. ;)
