VANdiana Jones sequel: The Legacy Continues

Hi Tim,

Better option for a lighter hood? What's wrong with this OEM fiberglass unit? It wasn't too heavy stock, is maybe a smidge lighter now but not hugely noticeable.
The vents are aluminum yes--only option from RunCool.

I believe it's because the new ('08+) hoods are all steel. I know my '11 is, and it looks like Tim has a '10.

Ahh, this I didn't know. A bit odd that Ford would have gone from a nice fiberglass to a steel. Why not meet in the middle and do an aluminum?

I don't think I've updated on this yet; recently the good used OEM grey lower interior panels made their way into the van. I still need to search for a few uppers, modify the driver side cupholders panel, figure out what to do about the RR wheelwell panel as OEM is carpet vs matching plastic(Ford, that was a dumb move). Thanks much to MG for combining this with some other "van" work!

Last night I performed an oil change on the van(factory Motorcraft filter, 15qts of Total Rubia TIR7900 15w40 high performance heavy duty diesel oil), lubed all 8 zerks with Valvoline Crimson, visual check, reverted from red LED 3rd brake light bulbs(loose in the bulb socket so driver's side was inop until you touched it), tightened up one of the bumper LED housings which worked itself loose, few other small odds and ends. I'll be honest that I've gotten too far away from working on the rig myself even though all the resources are here (read; rat race), so it felt really good to do even this small work myself. Just had to set some time aside and make it happen.

Working on some front bumper stuff soon hopefully.
Also in talks about interior build-out.
Refining the long list otherwise.......

I know what you mean! I have a pile of parts sitting in my dining room waiting on me to install. Some are for phases of the build I haven't gotten to yet, but some just need me to get off my butt and do it.

Well you do have a solid excuse Pat.

Maybe it is just my model year. It is a 2010 and given the ever increasing DOT etc regulations, perhaps it was beefed up for front end collision reasons? Next time I'm near an earlier model I'll do a comparison. This thing is friggin heavy.

It isn't a big deal, just wondering why this hood is the smallest yet feels the heaviest of any vehicle I've ever owned!

Lots of goodies en route, cannot wait to get them on! I'll update with pics as we go.
--Bumper has arrived; using custom MG Metalworks brackets. Will add a TRS(RetrofitSource) 35W HID kit to the fogs, yellow "Lamin-X" film, probably the same for the Rigid E1 30" light bar for top of bumper
--ComeUp 16.5S winch, Factor55 ProLink
--UJOR Fox 2.0's all around with newly designed front lower shock mounts and front upper shock mounts
--Fox steering stabilizer
--SSBC 8piston front calipers(black powder), BigBite drilled/slotted rotors, pads
--BedRug VanTred rear vinyl flooring (grey BedRug will be for sale!)
--OEM front vinyl flooring (grey Ford carpet in good shape will be for sale!) and the missing OEM Flint Grey interior panels
--"Scene" lights for my SAR(search and rescue) use
--Custom laptop mount being modified to allow more forward seat-sliding action for driver

Working on;
--Custom DoorClaw (longer extended model)
--Discussing plans for interior build-out for later this year
--Window tint re-do with 3M Crystalline
--Lots of preventative maintenance soon as well

Pulled 3 snowmobiles on a 16' trailer in the snow/ice this past weekend for SAR training. Van went like a champ with Toyo MT's at 30psi in 4Hi.
I'll probably look into an exhaust brake for long mountain passes--will want to save the brakes as much as possible.
Noticing a very very very slight hesitation/"misfire" at throttle tip-in when going about 45mph+ in 5th gear. I really have to try to make it happen or else it's not felt. I'll keep my eye on this.

Jeremy, it sounds like you have enough parts already there to keep you busy for a while. Can't wait to see where the build goes.

Thanks guys! It'll keep up busy for a bit. It's been lots of list making, refining, etc. Some of these items jumped to the head of the list due to new R&D breakthroughs, brakes are a definite safety need so that was high up there(after much discussion I didn't feel that the ROI would be as great on the UJOR RSC 14.5" upgrade at $4000 since I already have so many of those parts as it is. Plus these Ford rotors are an industry-leading 1.5" thick so they provide a sizable heat sink even at a dinky 13"dia).

Oh, two other items I forgot; UJOR OBA kit is on the way. So that means my current ARB CKMA12 will be for sale, perhaps my CKMP12 in case might be for sale too at some point.
Also, rear door swingout windows(clear--will have them tinted to match the rest of the van in the end).

Many of these upgrades revolve around the new bumper breakthrough. With it comes; foglights, HID kit for fogs, Rigid 30" for bumper, winch, UJOR OBA kit since I want the quick disconnect in the bumper.

busy indeed!

Looks like quite the triage list but I'm interested in how the SSBC 8piston front calipers install and perform. Eventually I plan on doing something similar or at least going to the bigger brakes that went on the vans in 2008 I think.
