My 285 BFG's are so wide that even flares don't cover them completely.......would look stupid without them!

Which begs the question of your wheels and backspacing/offset? I have 315s on stock wheels and they do not extend past the flares. HOWEVER hard to judge, it appears those flares are slightly narrower than mine/ours?
I would like to go to 35x10.50s or 255/100r16s (if I could every find them) instead of the wide 315s and remove flares.
Nice 80 by the way and love the headlight washers which I can't get here in the States.

I have owned a 40, several 62's, and now have an 80. To me the 80-series is the last of the Cruisers with a unique identity. IMHO, the 100-series has generic SUV styling and could be mistaken for a number of other vehicles. It might as well be a GM Envoy.
Looking older isn't a drawback to me. It's one of the reasons I like it. I would actually prefer the even more retro 60-series but needed to step up to the 80 for long distance travel.

I'm not an LC guy but I just wanted to chime in to say that IMO the 80 is one of the best looking SUVs ever made. I see them all the time and am always impressed by how rugged and distinctive they look, even in bone-stock form.
Last Summer when gas prices were hovering around the $4/gallon mark, I saw several early 90's FJ80s on CL for around $2500. Most of them had less than 200k on the clock and I'm assuming they were being sold because of their notorious thirst. If I'd had money laying around I would have been sorely tempted to try and pick one up for a dedicated trail rig.

IMO 80's don't lack in the looks department, 60's are better yet. 100's need mods to look appealing. My 80 is really being a PITA lately though, every sensor and other electronic gizmo has been acting up as of late. I said it before, there is too much wiring in these bad boys, too many electric and electronic things to go wrong. That plus all the emmisions components that give off never ending check engine lights. I would assume 100's will have the same issues when they reach this vintage. I miss my old 60 for it's simplicity and lack of extras to go bad. But, the 80 just does almost everything better and in more comfort. Give me an 80 w/ a mechanically controlled diesel, 5 speed, and power nothing, that would be ideal. Sounds like I should find an early Cummins Dodge, but they are nowhere as cool as a Cruiser. Rant over...
