Las Cruces Chile Challenge- Dona Ana County, NM

Patzcuarro’s Revenge Trail

The 21st annual Las Cruces Chile Challenge drew hundreds of 4WD enthusiasts from across the United States and Mexico to test their nerves and push their skills by driving over some of the roughest terrain in the Southwest. With Las Cruces area trails ranging from mild to wild, participants' 4WD vehicles varied from bone stock to purpose built rock buggies. While a number of trails are located in remote sections of northern Dona Ana County, most of the trails are located in the Chile Canyons of the Robledo Mountains. The Chile Canyons Trail System is administered by the BLM and used by hikers, mountain bikers and (in this case) rock crawlers. While I enjoy guiding trails for the event, I always take a day to photograph the “big boys” on the extreme trails and witness the grinding spectacle.

Great pictures Jake.
I recognize Jonathan Hanson in some of them.
Looks like his toolkits from the article in the OJ too?

The food looks great.

Thanks, Corey. Indeed, that's Mr. Hanson's infamous overland toolkit. He did a fine job assembling such a complete and unencumbered kit. Aside from the breakfast shot, Ara (Oasis of My Soul) is to be credited for cooking the vibrant food pictured above.
