Viair 88P on board air

I just got a Viair 88P. Its a small air compressor, but more than enough for my needs... now, i would like to have it hardwired on the jeep... i was thinking under the hood, or on the back,above the wheel well... i plan on tracing the hose to somewhere on the outside, either the front or rear bumper depending on where i put the compressor, and installing a quick fitting on the hose.... so, any ideas??

Sounds like your past the idea phase and ready to execute. I've done the same thing with a much larger Viair.

well, the idea is there... but i wanted to see some more mounting options... i think i will put the switch in cab, so i dont need to access the hood to turn on the compressor....

I put mine under the passenger seat. I think it was a 480C? I don’t recall, it’s been happy under there for years. I added a few computer fans to circulate air around it while it runs. Probably unneeded, but I geeked out a bit. It works nicely, and I keep an air hose coiled under there too.

This is mine mounted on the fender under the hood but before I wired it to a switch inside the cab.

After wiring:

Plumbed to the front bumper. That location is less precarious than it looks in this photo and is about 20 inches off the ground.

I personally don't recommend an OBA setup. As others have said, you either have to run really long and heavy gauge cables or contend with heat. And the engine bay on a Wrangler gets mighty hot.

To me, and this is only my opinion, I like being able to grab the bag and taking it to a different vehicle. When it's wired in, then it's more or less immobile. So if you need to air up a buddy beyond the reach of the hose, then no go. Just something to think about.

I just mounted it under the passengers seat. It fits perfect in that spot bolted to a small bracket i made with some material i had on the shop.

I plan on making a manifold to add a safety valve, another gauge to put somewhere in the dash, and a couple outlets.

Even though being able to transport it to another vehicle is nice, i prefer to have it hardwired and fixed on its place. I have been camping and sleeping on the jeep more than before, im getting lazy to put my tent, so i like everything in its place. Having it fixed there, its just one less thing to pack and unpack.

well, today i had some free time at my shop, so after some drilling and tapping, i finished the manifold. It has an inlet and 4 outlets, 2 for air hoses, one for another manometer which will be on the dash somewhere, and one for a safety valve. I made a small bracket and bolted it to the passengers frame rail.



Here it is mounted in place. Its already dark in here, tomorrow i plan on finishing the installation and taking more pics...

I finished installation today. I added a rear outlet on a 3D printed bracket, bolted under the homemade subwoofer relocator i had done some years ago. (pictures are inverted due to being taken with the selfie cam)





All i need to do is design and 3D print a bracket to hold the air gauge in place next to the switches and it will be all set. The small compressor will air from 25 to 35 psi in under 2 minutes, i think its acceptable for the price tag it has, and definitely more than enough for my needs.
