Lemme see what i can dig up from the manuf real quick..

EDIT: Just got off the phone with their tech guy and he says they're 7000 KELVIN. There's a new brighter bulb coming out and it's going to be 5000 KELVIN. I WILL be able to switch to that bulb once it's released if i wish to do so.

IMHO get the 5000K one when they are available, it's much closer to day light. 7000k has too much blue tint.

Yep, there is always a tradeoff between color temperature and lumen output. The higher the color temperature (and thus the more blue tint to the output) the lower the overall lumen ouput. Also, I find the bluer output to really mess with my perception of colors and depth in a negative way. This is one reason I have stayed away from HID lamps on my truck. My old Audi has euro-spec lamps with an aftermarket 5000K HID kit. I loved the beam pattern but hated the way the color temperature washed out the color of the things in front of me. I think this could be a serious liability off-road when trying to identify obstacles.

I would like to see these compared to the Hella HID. I have always like the Red Hella Hids and now they have Hella HID compact which are about the size the these Xvisions.

I just installed their 5000k new bulbs. I'll report back after the New Years trip to see if there better than the last set. They say they're more WHITE and BRIGHTER. Im stoked if so, because the 7000k were way to purple for my taste.

Are you thinking so because of the color temp you used (5000K) or because you believe that HID itself would be a liability off-road? From personal experience racing off-road with HID's, I can tell you that they are in no way a liability if you stay away from pencil beams patterns. As with any light source, a highly focused beam is intended for long distances. Off road, most situations demand close-in lighting, say within 100 yards. For this you need a spread beam pattern, either floods or wide angle drivers. I have 8 forward-looking HID's ranging from 5 inch floods and 6 inch floods to 8 inch drivers, and the effect is terrific. I have no trouble distinguishing obstacles at distances far beyond what I could see with halogens.

I note, however, that all of my lamps use standard HID bulbs rated at around 4300K, which is the same bulb used in all of the OEM headlight units that I have ever seen, including my Audi A6. I would stay away from the 6000 and up units because the only folks that will think they are brighter than 4300K lamps are those coming at you. You won't see a positive difference from behind the wheel.

Ok, last night i used the new 5000k bulbs. Much better. No more real purple look and much more bright white, which in turn makes them feel like they're brighter. They're still only 35 watts which is great too (another plus with HID's , they dont draw any power). Funny, i turn them off and go back to my regular OEM headlights, they appear to be not on. lol. So far , way better than the previous bulbs.

I will see if i can get some pics of New Years. We are going on a night run.

SOCALFJ,

Did they contact you about the bulb? I did not see it on their site? Can you purchase the lights with this bulb already in them? If not, how much for this new bulb?

I don't remember where i heard about it. I think i was exchanging emails with one of their reps. The bulbs were free. I just sent my old ones in and they sent me out the new ones. I had to pay for shipping.

Give Nick a call at 888-489-9820 and tell him you need the 5K 35 watt bulbs.

If you dont have the lights yet, i assume the new ones ship with the new bulbs.. maybe there's a new part # on the newest shipments. Either way VisionX is really really helpful dude, im sure Nick will be able to tell you.
