Hi,
if you are in Dubai next time pass by at a2b (0097143475712) garage in Al Quoz. They have extensive knowledge about this cars and what to bring.

Clutch pump?

Ah, sorry, in North America I guess one would refer to it as the Hydraulic Clutch Cylinder.

It is a very common part to fail on a 2005 TD5 Defender, from personal experience (7 failing out of 10 trucks, all 2005 TD5 Defenders, within the first year of ownership).

It may not end your trip, but if I had to bring 4 spares for this truck that would be one of them.

Cheers

Or is it the slave?

I understand the heavy interest in ecu's as they are vital, but I have also heard that they rarely blow, except when drowned of course.

And even then, if you clean them out quickly enough, good chance it'll be fine. I'd say it's more important knowing where the ECU is, and how to get it out quickly and take it apart than it is to carry a spare.

To answer the original question, I believe the TD5 has a crank position sensor, and that would be my vote for the #1 item to bring. Then since it's a TD5, I think a Nanocom would be sufficient instead of a full blown T4/Testbook. I'd also bring an extra fuel injector. That leaves one more, I'm not sure what.

A big issue with the TD5 ecu was oil traveling up the loom to the ecu and ruining it. You can get the dealer to change out the loom before your trip I believe to prevent this, although I know some people who actually pumped silicon into the loom to stop the oil migration. Seemed to work for them.
