Waeco/Dometic cf50 ac/dc fridge freezer

As far as "freezer" stuff goes, remember that a deep fridge like this one will actually have a difference in temp between top and bottom. On my Indel-B I presume the temp sensor that runs the thermostat is located somewhere near the bottom of the fridge, based on the fact that it can be at 32 - 34 (normal setting) and if my wife puts in some frozen items on the bottom it will drop to 16 or 17.
.
It is absolutely possible to keep stuff frozen at the bottom of the fridge and use the upper portion as a refrigerator, but you are going to have to be careful that you don't put things that can be damaged by freezing (like soda, beer or anything carbonated) too low in the fridge.
.
As shown above on the Dometic, ours also has the compartment that sits above the compressor and is warmer than the rest of the fridge. We usually keep eggs there as it is the perfect size for eggs.
.
I'm still getting the hang of using a big chest type fridge like this one. I typically set the temp around 32 because I know that if it's set at 32, that temp will only be in the lowest part of the fridge, the upper portions can be in the mid- to high-30's and the compartment above the compressor can be in the 40s (I have a cheap refrigerator thermometer that sits in the top of the fridge so I can monitor the "real" temperatures inside.)

After giving this some thought....
I guess the only reason I'd "need" the ability to keep things frozen is if "ice cream is a must carry" for me.
Meat/bacon and cheese and such keep in my regular fridge at home just fine for a week or so...
There are "dual zone" fridge freezers with an actual dedicated freezer section; Dometic makes one in the WAECO CoolFreeze CFX 65DZ.
It's about $200 more than the CF50 fridge though; ~$750 vs ~$550
I don't know if I feel that strongly about ice cream.

We have discussed using the fridge as a freezer on longer trips- keeping meat and whatnot frozen and using a cooler to store thawed food with ice made in the freezer. Cheaper and more flexible than a combo fridge/freezer.

We have had our CF-50 for over 4 years. It's been in 3 vehicles including being mounted open to the elements in our Power Wagon. Never had an issue. We liked it so much we also bought a CF-18 to use in our Outback.

My Waeco CF-50 took a dump!

The display reads -18° runs like a champ just wont shut off. No matter how long it runs it still reads -18°. After a little research I thought maybe it was the thermistor because it does not know what the temp is. Replace the thermistor requires a little surgery so I thought I would test the thermistor so I unplugged it and plugged in the new one before I start cutting open my fridge. Plug in the new thermistor thinking it should probably read around 75° buy NOoooo it reads -18°. :(

Any ideas?

Do the CF-boxes have an emergency override?!

Yes and I did try switching it, also unplugged it from the circuit board in the event the switch was bad, no change. :(

I do have a call into Waeco of Australia waiting for a response

My guess at this point is 1 of the 2 boards is bad. I have had other 12v fridges and this suit my needs the best so I plan to go the distance and repair it even if I end up replacing both boards.
