back to San Francisco
There has been plenty of wandering since I last posted in this thread. Time to start catching up, and thanks for the nice replies. SLO F-250, the next piece takes me to your neck of the woods. The central coast is one of my favorite parts of CA.
We got back to San Francisco just in time for my baby cousins’ hectic first-Christmas schedule. Family and friends have all arrived, feasting and fun commences. After some epic bad caroling –it was really really bad …
It’s time for presents. Even though every year we swear to doing “secret-Santa” gifts, no one can resist getting just one little thing for … well, everyone.
My cousin is a soft spoken guy well known in NorCal as an expert fly fisherman. The stories he tells about the characters he’s met wandering in streams/rivers all over the state are hilarious. He’s published articles in different sporting magazines over the years, he’s a great storyteller. Here he’s making the sure the fly-fishing gene is firmly entrenched in his first granddaughter. Our grandfather taught him, after all.
A little more wandering around the city before leaving, I went over to Lands End.
Past China Beach, Baker Beach and towards Lands End is this beautiful section of Coastal Trail passing through cypress trees bent from the wind, and more views of the GG bridge. The Coastal Trail is a 9 mile combination of paths¸ old military roadways, beaches, residential walkways even the roadbed for an 1888 steam railroad. Lands End is a wild, rocky corner of SF, strewn with shipwrecks and landslides – but still in the city.
I love all the old stuff you can find here. In 1931 this thing was installed by the “department of electricity”, just a relic now.
Bye San Fran, until next time!
Had a change of plans for the next leg, I was going to continue down the coast to meet up with some folks for New Year’s but instead wound up heading home to re-pack the Tiger for Baja. I almost always forgo the drive down 5 to LA for a much less crowded route out of Bakersfield across the Tehachapi Pass to 395. This time I caught a nice moon sliver rising as the sun was setting off Hwy 58 near Mojave.
I arrived home to a fresh layer of snow on the mountain. Sometimes we get to be first through the fresh powder
