About Titus Adventure Company (TAC)

Based in Denver, TAC is an adventure travel outfitter that rents overland campers and outdoor gear to get customers into the mountains better so they have more memories and fewer checklists. Our mission is to help promote access to the outdoors while being good stewards for the environment and our community.

We are a small and scrappy business looking to expand our operational capacity. Currently we have a fleet of 13 campers (a mix of 4x4 trucks and campervans) as well as a warehouse full of gear like rooftop tents, ebikes, and camping gear available for rent. We also plan custom routes for customers and run guided overland camping trips. We always have something going on and we are looking for a new team member who can help manage our growing operations.

Job Description

This is a role that takes a special blend of someone with a strong mechanical/automotive background and who is great with interacting with customers. We are a company that prides itself on having a 5-star review and does everything it takes to ensure our guests have an excellent travel experience with us. We put a lot of time in how we communicate with our customers and we are equally meticulous in how we take care of our vehicles and gear.

Main Operational Duties
  • Manage fleet of vehicles: do small repairs in house, track and schedule preventive servicing, coordinate larger repairs
  • Use our reservation system to set schedule and manage bookings
  • Communicate with customers via email and phone
  • Assist with customer check-in/check-outs
  • Take shifts of being on-call 24/7 for customer support
  • Empathetically troubleshoot with customers who have issues on the road
  • Oversee seasonal staff
  • Clean and detail vehicles after customer trips
  • Inspect vehicle and gear for damage
  • Prep gear and bedding for upcoming trips
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop
  • Repair gear and equipment
  • Help design, fabricate, install parts for our vehicles or equipment
  • Assist with trip planning for customers
Other Tasks
  • Staff some events/expos we are participating in
  • Take photos/videos for marketing content
Highly Desired Qualifications:
  • Proven record of delivering 5-star customer service
  • Managed a small team
  • Overseen small vehicle fleet or repair shop
  • Extremely knowledgeable working with cars and takes pride in their condition
  • Self-described “neat freak”
  • A love for the outdoors and experienced with camping/outdoor trips
  • Eager to help the business constantly improve (always thinking of ways to improve efficiency or customer experience)
  • Creative and flexible
  • Available to work on Saturdays (and get weekdays off)
  • Great driving record and comfortable driving large vehicles in tight spaces
  • Able to lift 50+ pounds
Other Desired Qualifications:
  • Experienced with 12V electronics
  • Knowledge of the Colorado backcountry’s hidden spots
  • Used Canva or similar program for creative design
Compensation

Pay range is $50,000-$60,000 plus $25 for each time a customer mentions your name in a 5-star online review. You will also get use of the campers/gear for your own trips and can get paid to go on scouting expeditions.

This is an in-person, full-time position of roughly 40hrs a week. We are a semi-seasonal business with our summers being the busiest but do operate through the winter. This position is great for people who themselves like to travel off-season (Nov-Feb) when we are slowest.

How to Apply

Please send resume and cover letter about why you are interested in joining our team to travis@tacrentals.com.

Semi-retired? It would take two go-getters to do all the things listed in that job description.
Same thing I thought. I'd be hard sure the 8hr MAX day was the #1 thing in contract, or that guy is gonna work 150hr weeks!

Sorry, don't want to bad talk it, again it does sound like a fun job actually, most interesting I've seen in a while. Wish my kid lived out there to apply, looks like a position that could grow. But I'd get that 8hrs in writing ;)

I was thinking the same thing lol sounds like a miserable job. Twice the workload at half the pay 😂 not to mention someone is far too fixated on pleasing the customer. Some customers can’t be pleased, and you’ll easily and quickly burn out good help by forcing them to try.

I agree, this isn’t a true management job for that comp. They’re combining two rolls into one, for the price of low skilled labor. It doesn’t look miserable, just confused rolls and expectations for a “manager” position.

The post is clear about the expectations and what they are willing to pay for it. It's really up to each individual whether the compensation is reasonable for the expected duties or not. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with any of the comments, just that they may not be appropriate for the thread?

And @Tacrentals , you may want to put this in the Job Board forum, seems a perfect fit over there..

Sounds like a fun job that I would hate after the first day.

Lost me at: Take shifts of being on-call 24/7 for customer support so obviously not a 40/hr a week job. and there are issues legally having a non manager position being on call - ie: need to pay the hourly person for that on call time in most states.

Don’t forget you need to be a saleguys and car detailer- a good sales guy isn’t going to detail cars- and a good sales guy is making six figures easy.

I was thinking the same thing. Fleet mechanic and customer service are two different things. Im not sure what the market out in Denver is, but around here, you'd have a hard time attracting candidates for either one of those positions at that salary. I don't think the ad mentions benefits outside of playing with the toys.

An Operations Manager should be managing the two to three other people it would take to do those jobs. I can see a fleet mechanic doing a repair, having to stop what they are doing to take a curiosity call, then another difficult "troubleshooting" call, then have to check out a customer and inspect the returning equipment, only to then forget to torque an important nut down to specification when they finally get back to fleet maintenance.

Very often, companies will call a laborer position "manager" so the laborer thinks they are "getting something" - And they are getting something: they are getting boned out of proper role descriptions, role separation, and salary.

Granted, it's a small business and you often wear many hats at small businesses, and, as I said, the market there for salary may be totally different out there in Colorado. What do I know.

Best of luck filling the open position, though

Ya. And after a rough customer service interaction, where would thier head be as they put the wheels back on?
