Winch is fairly new with no real serious use but lately the free spool lever so so hard to turn its taking two hands. All other functions seem to be working
Take the gear train off and check the sliding collar inside. Might have got some moisture in there causing it to want to seize. If that's the case, make sure you get the grease Warn recommends. Greases like red #2 tend to cause suction and that leads to the problem your having now. Hope this helps.

Mine was tight out of the box, which is a bit of a pain to turn while reaching through the little hole in the ARB bumper. I am hoping it limbers up a bit with use, not that I use it often.
I just picked up an M8000-S a few weeks ago, and I also noticed that the free-spool lever was really tight, but then again this is my first winch so I don't have much to compare it to.
I don't know if its "Recommended" but When I rotated mine for the install I used waterproof green grease. It's been working great for quiet a while now and no where near as stiff as before.
I actually used Lucas dump truck bearing grease. But I first used Red & Tacky #2, and got the suction result. I stated to use the recommended grease so everyone would know that not just any grease will work.
