Warn MX6085 Rebuild

I am tearing into a Warn MX 6085 that came on my Land Cruiser when I purchased it. It doesnt work and the free spool switch is stuck. If anyone has any advice I am all ears. I have never rebuilt a winch before. I'll post up pictures tomorrow.

Its not in as bad of shape as I was thinking it would be on the inside. It still looks a little rough though. Everything seems to be intact. I am going to clean all of the connections and the motor and see where we get.
 
I see why the free spool switch was locked up. Looks like some water sat in these gears.

After a good cleaning, this should spool a little easier.

I am coating the outside in a high performance enamel.

Well I have tested the motor and it works. I have some kind of problem in the solenoids though. I am not sure if one or more of them is bad. I am calling it a day and we try and test the solenoids this weekend.
 
Those old solenoids are almost always bad, and Warn no longer carries them. Finding new ones is difficult to impossible. For my 8274 rebuild, I ended up getting a new solenoid pack from Warn.

Thanks for the info. Do you think I may be able to find some similar solenoids at an auto parts store or something along those lines?

I have heard that the M8000 used the same motor and that you can get the solenoids at NAPA.

I had a Warn/Belleview predecessor to the 8274. Almost every part was available through NAPA. The solenoids I believe cross reference to Ford solenoids. My CJ7 used the same solenoid as the winch did.

Thanks for the help, I will head up to NAPA today or tomorrow and see what they can come up with.
 
So I re-greased and assembled the gear side today.

Everything is working the way it should by hand. I can set it to free spool and lock it in great. Now I just have to get the solenoids going.
