WARN Portable winches at Overland Expo

Hi all,

Just wanted to share with you some info about the new WARN RT15 Portable and XT17 Portable winches. We've designed these with multiple uses in mind, including adventure-touring motorcycle use. The RT15 Portable (1,500 lb. capacity) has wire rope, the XT17 Portable (1,700 lb. capacity) has synthetic and the whole thing weighs only 8.5 lbs. We even offer stoage mounts on the back of the bikes (for select BMWs at this point).

Anyway, if you'll be at the Overland Expo, stop by our booth and take a look. We'll have some demonstrations, too.

Warn has generously volunteered to bring their winches and recovery experience into the motorcycle recovery classes at the Overland Expo. We're looking forward to seeing the winches in action.

OMG! Why didn't he just pick it up? If you can sit on it while it's being pulled, why not just ride it up? What would be more cool is a jet pack carried on the back and fly it out....LOL

This is a good accessory to have on an Adv BMW, but adding more weight a an already hefty bike ??? But again, I can see where this is an advantage for some people, it's a great safety net, an while riding alone. Or maybe ride a liter bike that you can pick up/move around as mentioned, either way I think it great Warn coming out with things like this for us ADV riders!
Nice job Warn and great video! Keep up the good work guys!

I saw it at the Expo yesterday. It was so light it felt like a six pack in your hand. A little over 8 pounds with synthetic line. A couple of guys could certanly venture a lot deeper into the rough stuff with the added confidence it would bring.

Are these made in the USA by Warn or outsourced?

Like our other winches, the portable winches will come out of our Oregon, USA manufacturing facility. I believe these are made at our Milwaukie, OR facility.

We had good response to the XT17 Portable winches at Overland Expo. We heard some great feedback. Many people said "I've never seen a motorcycle winch, but this could've helped me out when ..."

They will be available in May.

This is where you stow the winch, not a place you pull from. It attaches with a locking pin.

El Gringo Spectacular!
I have to say I went into the Overland Expo a bit sceptical about the use of a motorcycle winch....

Now having seen and handled this new winch I am very impressed. I've ridden a 600+ lb. GS for years, and have been in situations where this little device (yes...about 8 lbs.!) would have saved a ton of sweat, it's great to see this an an addition to Warn's offerings.

The mounting system is pretty impressive too!
