Unfortunately this is par for the course with DBL Designs. A little research would’ve shown this work is to be expected from them, and it’s not an isolated incident.

Indeed. Pirate4x4 and other sites talk about him and usa6x6 as already being problematic as of the year of our Lord AD 2006.

Its not as if he was ever doing great, steady work and has suddenly dropped off in his old age or something.

How anyone gave him money for anything is beyond me.

Really wish others would actually help besides saying “the signs were obvious that this was a terrible company…why didn’t you know everything i know” and then provide no supporting information for their opinion.

Are we here to help others or just jump on the cheerleading bandwagon as others vent about a costly issue that they had no idea would happen?? What’s happening to this community??

I think that once others see this, they will share their stories, and the overall community will become informed.

I don’t go on pitate4x4 or usa6x6 for expedition information … i provided those hyperlinks for future reference to others who may not know the history behind dee-bee-ell.

The signs WERE obvious. Just use Google. That's all I did, and I dont go to either of those sites either, but I did for the first time yesterday, after I practiced my Google-foo and found them. And POW! There it was, right in my face. He actually got banned from the vendor list on at least one of those sites

If they are not a listed vendor on this site, not sure theres anything to be done here. I dont know.

I'm not trying to blame the OP, but dang! This guy and every company he has ever touched have horrible reviews and ratings for the last 20 years. TWENTY years. WTH.

Sharing stories is good. Whining about it but not taking legal action, and then going in there oneself to fix the problems (frigging KUDOS for those abilities btw!) Makes the OP legal position diminished at best, unfortunately. Maybe the next person will sue.

To purchase a truck like that, and then purchase these kinds of mods, well, ya gotta have a few bucks to rub together. OP, not trying to bash, but dayum. Do some research before you throw money around. OP could have called me. I have no training or equipment for this work, but for that kind of $, I could have learned on the fly done a better job, and turned it around quicker. This work looks like a 10 year old did it and in a hurry.

Glad OP could fix it, but that's a lot of skill and time wasted for something already bought

Wild stuff indeed. Crazy because I have two buddies who have had polar opposite experiences with their work in the past. Sad to see this happen. I hope you do pursue legal recourse, it's the only way to put the squeeze on someone unwilling to take care of their mistakes.

Not in my lane, BUT it seems with brush trucks and other publicly owned vehicles on the website, it makes me would what these public entities are doing. I would assume they have acceptance inspections by qualified individuals to safeguard the end users/operators of these modified vehicles, verify they will meet mission requirements, and also safeguard public funds. I wonder if they have two difference standards for producing vehicles ?

Just to clarify - I have no direct or indirect dealing with Dee Bee Ell, of which I am aware. Just reading up on this here and Google-ing.

Was there a time when he was good at this? Is his work spotty? Is his bread & butter state or municipal vehicles and private stuff takes a back seat?

Not sure how many trucks they build for municipalities, but they do supply the wheels for a large portion of the 450/4500+ trucks used by companies to build such trucks. Not sure if Skeeter Brush Trucks is still in bed with them?!

Their website says they've built 1800 or so, I think. Dont know if that's his lifelong build number of just since starting the DeeBeeELL company. And reading into that lawsuit Hutchinson filed against them, says they were buying up old, discarded end of life Hutchinson wheels, beadlocks and run-flats, doing shoddy work on them and reselling as new Hutchinson pieces.

It's hardto start a small business. Fir sure. Weve all scrimped and saved and worked long hours, but when others are paying a thousand or two, and they are asking like 500...you gotta figure, something's gotta give. Cheap, fast or good. Pick two, maybe.

I can say that two friends have had good experiences but that doesn't nullify all of those that haven't. I guess they should consider themselves lucky and steer clear moving forward.

Ha ha, yes sir. That one was indeed a bit tongue in cheek. I feel for the OP, I do.

Interestingly, D, of DBL, purports to be a military vet. Of course, that's certainly possible and I would not presume to debate him on that. It's just unfortunate if we cant get behind a company like that (on paper).

I knew a great mechanic when I was younger. He'd been laid off from the fire department (1982), and decided to open a shop. He was knowledgable, honest, and did d a m n good work. The local big chain hotel near the airport contracted him to repair their shuttle buses on demand, and it was just near impossible for him to get work done for his run of the mill customers, unless you sort of had all day to mill around.

Maybe this is like that. Fire trucks and specialty government vehicles take precedence and everything else is #2.
