Water Jugs?? What do you use?

The reliance cubes get used a lot on ttntt.com. Front runner makes a jerry can style with a spout at the bottom.

Hi

I use this water can that looks like scepter from LCI, it looks awesome. And this is very popular, but it lacks a spout. It is very heavy duty, weight 5lb. Wide opening makes it easier to clean, fill water, put down a motor for the 12v shower. 25 dollars here http://buylci.com/ItemDisplayF.aspx...ottle--5-gal--OD-Green--Plastic&ItemID=600409

US property can, I live in Sweden

Those scepter/jerry can style containers look the part but they seem to me like they'd be a PITA in real life to use - at least unless you buy a separate valve for them and then you're pretty much right back to the coleman design but with something that isn't as stable on it's side.

Personally, I've used a coleman 5 gal for years with no problem, though I do turn it up unless I'm using it. I just bought the Reliance version, which is 7 gal and BPA free, so I'll use that for drinking water and relegate the coleman to cleanup duty. Haven't tried it yet, so I can't comment on the quality, but it looks O.K. They make several different types - stackable, collapsable, jerry can, etc. - they all seem reasonably priced.

The Scepter/USGI cans are probably the toughest option out there. We crashed a vehicle at speed, and when walking around to collect all the bits and pieces later we found the water cans pretty far away still intact. I drank out of them for years while in the military and find them as easy to use as the Coleman jugs. The only time I do admit its kinda tough to deal with is when you have a full can and only want to pour a small amount into a small container. Like trying to add water to a Jetboil cup. That can get messy if you aren't careful.

Besides the 20g tank in my camper, I have a bunch of these 1g jugs:

In almost 50 years of camping - best damned water jug I've ever had. Pretty tough, no taste, top stays on and never leaks. Made of some thick nylon-like plastic that lasts for years and isn't the thin crinkly poly stuff that soda comes in. I've dropped 'em, accidentally punted 'em, never had one fail.

And they are small enough that I can stuff them into any ol' nook and cranny, or just line up a bunch of them on the floor and pile other stuff on top.

3 bucks for a gallon (I buy the sugar-free) at the grocery store.

Hell, I'd pay 3 bucks just for the jug.

I have the Aqua-Tainers. They are cheap and reasonably tough. Just be sure to secure them upright. That way if the vent plug gets dislodged you don't lose your water.

But I will admit I'd like to have the 60L (15.9gal) Water Tank from FrontRunner for long weekends or outings with a big group. It's a rather large amount of water for not having it on a trailer behind you. At 33"Lx14.2"Wx8.7"H it easily would fit across the rear compartment of my FJC and having it right over the rear axle on the floor would get that extra weight (132.7lbs) as low as possible in addition to keeping the container cleaner and cooler by having it inside the truck - http://www.frontrunneroutfitters.co...tank-60l-840l-x-360w-x-220h.html#.VRHOdfnF9ws

The LR3 FrontRunner project truck here on ExPo used one - http://expeditionportal.com/land-rover-lr3-a-front-runner-project/

Scepter cans here; tougher than the Reliance units in case of emergency. You can add a spigot to the screw top, or, order a spare screw top and add the spigot to that.

I have 2 rotopax 2 gallons, they are easier to manage than a single large capacity container and they share the weight on either side when traveling

Don't bother with expensive water containers.

I have like six or seven of these. You can get them at Walmart for around $15. Six gallons is enough for me, my fiancee, and two dogs for around 3-4 days in the forests of NW Montana. If you need more, well then it's only another $15. Very tough, very light, and comes with it's own spout that happens to be the perfect size for a narrow-mouth Nalgene bottle. :)
