Water Tanks

Tossing around the idea of mounting a water tank to the underside of the M101. I though it would be nice to have it in an area that won't take up precious cargo space. Are there any concerns about this? Does anyone have any experience? Please feel free to recommend or comment on this. The ones I am looking at can be found at http://www.plastictanks.ca/category.php?cat_id=029

Having a tank on your trailer is a great I idea. The guys at Adventure Trailers have been offering it on theres for a while now. Only concern I think you should worry about would be a good sturdy mounting system for the tank. At 8.5 pounds a gallon it can add up quick. Cant wait to see what you come up with, sounds like a fun project.

I don't own a trailer .......and don't know anything about them.

But since I had these pics of some members from our last outing....I thought I would share.

Gear's Poly tank......looks great, so functional!

We don't place the water tank under the trailer because of the likelihood of it being damaged.

Last thing you want is to arrive at camp and find out you punctured your tank and don't have any water.

We build a skid plate beneath the tank for added protection.

Just Think.............!

If you had bought an Adventure Trailer..........

You would be as happy as.....This Guy!

Although now he spends so much time out there.....he has a palm growing out of the back of his neck!

This could be a serious condition.....but not for one who owns an Adventure Trailer....with leak proof water system for washing the back of your neck!......just keep scrubbing!.........:shakin:

Not a trailer, but the same concept. I, too, was concerned about the weight as this sucker is 14 gallons. Full weight makes it worth 112 lbs. It's held in place by two steel brackets and four bolts, and the skid plate is bolted to the brackets. Though it's been mounted there for over a year and a half, never once had a failure with the brackets, or a scrape on the plate.

It actually resides in the spare tire's position and the tank happens to have a lower profile than a 265mm spare tire.

If the tank isn't so big that the filled weight is a problem, you'll be fine with adequate brackets and protection.

This is great info guys! How are most of you setting them up for pumping? I see Desertdude has an electirc pump. Is this the norm?

I wanted to make my system as automatic as I could (water at the touch of a button) - the pump also pumps water through the shower system.

Shurflo 2.8 gmp

have you found this pump decent? what i mean does it pump enough? id like to get one pump that will allow me to use it for both the sink and for showering do you think this one would do it?

thanks

I use this same pump on my boat and atv trailer aswell works fine to wash the gear bags ,shower, clean the atv's radiator. I would get the boat version its black in color draws less amps its a 12v . The pressure isn't like at home but on the trails it works great .

I went and looked at mine its a Shurflo boat pump 2088-423-344 12v 2.8 gpm and draws 4.5 amps hope this helps

mmm lets see, lets do the math....

20 gallon tank at 2.8 Gallons per minute at full flow....

with no restrictions in the flow line the tank will be empty and you'll be clean in 7 minutes......

However what you'd normally set up is similar to a fuel pump system, in that you have a flow loop tank to pump and back to tank, and restriction on the tank return to provide pressure in the system and any No of taps etc on the loop its self.

The loop is pressurised and you can open taps, shower etc up to the max flow of the pump.

So yes the pump is large enough......

Yes - it is an unstoppable pump. I have even lowered the pump pressure and added a water saver at the shower head to use even less water.
