Waxed canvas coat from "OZ"

I have a couple of them and I really should wear them more often. They seem to just live in the back of the 4wd and not get used but I think I will get them out

I had an Austraian Outback years ago but ended up giving it away. It was tough and waterproof, but it was also cumbersome and very heavy compared to more modern fabrics. It can also leave a nasty oil/wax film on your car seat if you don't take it off. The fabric is dead cold against your skin so you need underlayers. I suppose alot depends on where you live and travel. One plus to the canvas is spark resistance around a camp fire. I loved the way they looked, but ultimately it didn't pass the test for a keeper for me. I think it would be an excellent horseback garment. I keep a waterproofed Carhart canvas jacket, and a Carhart canvas HD work shirt in the truck now for fire duty and they are warm and comfortable. The best rain gear I've found is Ruf Duck. It's USA made in Washington, light and windproof. I live and work in bad weather though. It's been storming here for the last week with winds over 100mph and torrents of rain. I wear out a pair of muck boots on average once a year.

They often have a leather strap at the butt end that goes over the shoulder and the "leg" hangs from the armpit.

Glad I had them recently packing up in a downpour kept me nice and dry and warm
