We Have Walls!! VMI Alpine XL Build

How well are these trailers insulated.

From Mike:

We have two options for the insulation package in the trailers. The first is the base insulation that comes with all the live in style trailers from the Canyon to the Compass. This package uses an aluminized marine foam insulation in the walls, storage cabinets, and ceiling. Also there is a vapor layer under the flooring. This package makes the trailer very comfortable along with the included and optional HVAC components.
The second package takes it a bit farther with a similar foam insulation, but with a more dense construction in all the walls, storage cabinets, and ceiling. We then add insulation under the floor and chassis cladding to seal in everything below the deck. We also offer an insulated storm jacket for the canvas portion of the trailer that zips on, and full plumbing protection, this package performs best with our diesel fired appliances for HVAC.

I'll have to ask Mike again about towing with a Jeep. He told us at the Expo that the Alpine would be too heavy for a Wrangler, which is what I'd really prefer to get. Though I'm getting used to the idea of one of the new F150's.

My understanding is jeep wrangler towing capacity is 3500 which would be pushing the limit. We don't plan on using the jeep for any long haul - but we have a couple sites near our place in NC that we hope to use the jeep. Being a "Ford" fan - the new F150's are pretty sharp but I love the size of my Sport Trac, sorry that Ford doesn't produce that model any more.

What is the lead time for your build to complete?

We placed our deposit in mid-September 2014 -- never hesitated for one moment and still won't receive camper until end of October 2015. I know Mike has tweaked the production line in an effort to shorten the waits but for the most part; as they are mostly custom builds, it takes what it takes. He's told me he's added some more to the crew just in the last month (originally only 4 of them), so I imagine that should shave some of the wait times; especially if you just stick to the basics.

For what it's worth, Mike was very up front with us also about the lead time - unlike some complaints I've read about some of the other higher end builders.

That upgraded insulation package sounds awesome - that's the first I've heard about that. The zip-in liner for the canvas would be great.

I didn't realize I was buying a 'love in' trailer. I might have to ask for shag carpet.

No problem - I've got a good friend in Ocala and one of our absolute most favorite camping spots is Juniper Springs! We will assuredly be in your neck of the woods sometime this winter:)

Per Mike's request - I won't have any further pictures until completion: He wants me to have the "shock & awe" factor, LOL. Still on schedule for 10/25 completion, fingers-crossed.

The finish out stage is where I'd want to see the most photos.

That's a shame - I've been holding off on giving him our wish list as I watched yours being built.

Love their trailers but i doubt its because he wants "shock and awe". I personally think its to keep ppl from knowing to much about how its actually built. There are alot of ppl who can reverse engineer if enough pictures are provided...

Whatever the reason - I'm down with that -I can appreciate if he wants to protect trade secrets; though having worked with him for the past 18 months - pretty sure he would have felt comfortable just telling me that.

Congratulations! Mike, Corey, and AJ are great! BTW, from experience I can tell you that if you got the 3 day temp trip permit, some police departments up there actually mean it. If you are going to be longer than that, find a DMV and get another. Although, according to Mike, I'm the lucky one who got tagged for it.... no one else has apparently.

Can't wait to see the pics.
