WEB SITE HELP!!!!!

Observer
Hello all.

I just waisted 600.00 bucks on a wordpress website that bites. It was not user-friendly and images were limited to 64mb. Alternatives are a youtube channel, facebook page, and reports on various forums.

What I require is.

1. Easy and fast uploads
2. Able to take large files
3. Huge WEB exposure

A person to maintain a site while we are away is ideal. I can mail DVD's with images and text and that company or person could input the info onto a website while I am in remote areas of the world.

ANY IDEAS?!?!?!

Thanks

Take a Dreamweaver Bootcamp class (12 Days I think) and learn to do your own site. You'll save major money and headache in the long run

Our first website, we paid through the nose to have someone host it for us. We ran into so many issues, I vowed to learn it myself and have saved literally thousands of dollars. Pluses are if something needs to be done, it's up to us to do it. No excuses

Once you learn how, you'll laugh that you ever paid anyone because of how easy it is

x2, I never did the bootcamp, but still maintain all my own sites with Dreamweaver.

To be honest, I've never done the bootcamp and don't know how to use Dreamweaver, although I'm planning on it this spring, but I taught myself Frontpage and it's what I use for all our sites.

Dreamweaver is much more advanced which is why I want to learn it, but you don't even need it to manage your own sites and you'll still get by

First things first - what the heck is your web site for? How is it not meeting your needs? Wordpress is a viable platform for all sorts of things. Do you dislike the look? The features? The interface? And really - you have pictures bigger than 64Mb each?

To your points:
1. easy uploads are a given in most ant site. Fast will probably be limited by your upload connection.
2. What kind of files? What do you want to do with them?
3 - That's search engine optimization and has nothing to do with the platform of the web site.

Alright, I wrote that last night minutes after I wanting to through my toughbook across the floor.

Our Goal.
I am a consultant for automation companies focusing in the Auto industry sector. I am also embarking on a trip through South America with my family beginning in 1 week. While traveling through, I plan on stopping by various technical universities offering some service to their labs, as I have access to the latest equipment on the market. My wife who is a oberkomnissar with the German police also plans on visiting various police stations trading badges and stories. I have HD video recording equipment that I would like to really utilize. My idea is that I can record footage and commentate in the video instead of the same ole' website with text and pictures. I feel that you do not get the entire essence of the environment you are in with a few stills. Audio and video add a whole new dimension to the experience of following the trip IMO.

With time running out and being limited to resources in SA I think I have no other choice but to hire help. Any advise on farming it out?

I cant stress enough how frustrated you'll be hiring it out.

If you cant learn it, I'd stick with forum updates and Youtube for the video hosting. It's free and as long as you have a connection, you'll have access.

One thing to keep in mind while traveling in South America, set yourself up a Gmail account and have all other accounts forwarded through it. There will be times when it will be the only thing you can connect to.

There is a thread on here where they posted daily updates and it has over a million views!

Easy peazy. (mostly)

YouTube (or Vimeo) for hosting. You do not want to try to host the video yourself. Pictures can either go into the WP media library or to an external site (like Smugmug, Flikr, etc). I prefer an external site so that my web host is only serving the core site - all media is linked from YT or Smugmug.

Wordpress is a prime blogging site. I can't think of a reason not to use it. There is a function that allows you to email your posts into a Wp site, but you still have to upload the video to YT (or V). Actualy you email the posts to Gmail and the WP site pulls them from Gmail. I do not know exactly how it works.

Are you prepared to edit video on the road?

What exactly is wrong with your WP site? I'm not saying WP is the end-all and be all of blogging, but if you have a site you might as well use it.
