Wedge and Full length pop-up toppers - Making the bed area livable in cold climates?

I have commented a time or 2 before that I may be looking to replace my van. With a 4 yr. old and another kid due any day now, the current layout and condition of my van has me considering other options, and on the top of my list is a 1/2 ton truck.

If I did move to a 1/2 ton truck, I would still want some type of vehicle-based sleeping arrangement. A typical slide-in camper isn't feasible (too heavy, most too expensive) so I have been getting up to speed on on the wedge and full length pop-up truck topper options. I think for my basic needs, one of these would be perfect! It seems that many of these toppers are not insulated, nor is the truck bed, so I'm just curious how people have dealt with this? My main use case is going to a friend's house in MI, in November, to deer hunt. There house is cramped and the dogs are not the most well behaved, so I prefer to sleep in my van. Weather ranges from 60* and sunny, to 38* and rain, to 20* and snowing...and every combination in between...so keeping the living space comfortable would be a major consideration. Many of the pics I see of these toppers is in warm weather.

I would plan to have a spray liner installed in the bed, so I'm sure that offers some level of insulation. I had a thought of gluing some type of lightweight flooring to sheets of rigid foam for the floor that could be taken in and out as needed. I'm still not sure what could be done to the bed sides and the topper.

Options that appear to be available for a full-size truck:
- Adventure Trailer Summit truck topper
- Snap Outfitters Treehouse
- OVRLND camper

Anyway, this is just a thought exercise at the moment and hoping someone could comment on their experiences and/or ideas.

Thanks!
