I rode over to Lake Havasu City again this past weekend and had another "learning oppertunity". I loaded up my Pelican 1510 carry on case on the back of my CM400T and bungee corded a 2 1/2 gallon gas can on top of that. I mapquested the trip and learned that it is 110 miles from Congress to Parker. The Bike has a 2.6 gallon tank and I switched over to reserve at 69.7 miles. I was about 40 miles away from Parker when I did so. I sputtered to a stop at 105.7 miles. When I pulled over to pour my spare gas in, I found the gas can bumbeling along the ground behind me :Wow1:. There was a hole rubbed into the side of it and about 1/4 cup of fuel inside. I removed the broken bungee cord and put the last little bit in my tank and hoped for the best. Parker was 109.5 miles and I made it! :bike_rider:
My bike ran fine for about three blocks when it began to sputter. No power and I had to hold the clutch in and wide open throttle to get the RPMs up over 3500. I was able to limp it about another 4 or 5 miles before it quit altogether.
I called my father-in-law and he came to pick me and the bike up with his trailer to get me to a shop in Havasu. We trailered it home to Prescott yesterday and its at the shop here in town now. I had about $80 on the books there in hopes that they could find a larger tank but now I guess that money (and more) will go to carb work.
I told the shop that if they could get it running again without a full re-build that it would be best for me because I hadn't budgeted enough for the 3 hourd they want to charge me for it.
