Well Phooey (Part 2)

I rode over to Lake Havasu City again this past weekend and had another "learning oppertunity". I loaded up my Pelican 1510 carry on case on the back of my CM400T and bungee corded a 2 1/2 gallon gas can on top of that. I mapquested the trip and learned that it is 110 miles from Congress to Parker. The Bike has a 2.6 gallon tank and I switched over to reserve at 69.7 miles. I was about 40 miles away from Parker when I did so. I sputtered to a stop at 105.7 miles. When I pulled over to pour my spare gas in, I found the gas can bumbeling along the ground behind me :Wow1:. There was a hole rubbed into the side of it and about 1/4 cup of fuel inside. I removed the broken bungee cord and put the last little bit in my tank and hoped for the best. Parker was 109.5 miles and I made it! :bike_rider:

My bike ran fine for about three blocks when it began to sputter. No power and I had to hold the clutch in and wide open throttle to get the RPMs up over 3500. I was able to limp it about another 4 or 5 miles before it quit altogether.

I called my father-in-law and he came to pick me and the bike up with his trailer to get me to a shop in Havasu. We trailered it home to Prescott yesterday and its at the shop here in town now. I had about $80 on the books there in hopes that they could find a larger tank but now I guess that money (and more) will go to carb work.

I told the shop that if they could get it running again without a full re-build that it would be best for me because I hadn't budgeted enough for the 3 hourd they want to charge me for it.

Oh yeah....... the lesson learned. Bungees don't work well! 110 miles is just a little too far between fuel stops.

I'm all ears! Do you have any suggestions links or websites to reccomend? I was thinking about getting an MSR fuel bottle to gain about a litre but I'd rather have a larger tank. 2.6 gallons is just shy of 110 miles. I'd like a reliable 150 or so.

The shop called today and told me to come and get my bike out of their shop:Wow1: I told them that it would be a couple of more weeks because I still had a balance of about $200. They let me know that "A benefactor" had paid my bill :wings:! I had been paying what I could when I could and had paid about $125 toward the carb work so now that amount can be put toward a bigger fuel tank.

I don't know who the benefactor might be but God continues to amaze me!

That is REALLY COOL!

Since we stayed with you and Carrie last April, we have sold our ER, bought a Fuso-FM, are rebuilding it completely, have just acquired a Yamaha WR250R for the back of the house, and may be headed your way in March. We are planning to do a medical volunteer stint in Honduras for a couple of weeks, and we want to use that as a chance to do a shakedown trip with the new rig.

Pic below of the new rig.

Hope to see you in Prescott, John

My motorcycle is running MUCH better now. I usually would switch over to reserve at about 65 or 70 miles but I'm at 85 miles now and still haven't switched over :bike_rider:. I also bought a new air filter and new spark plugs and will install those this weekend. I'm still enjoying the ride!

Glad to hear it Rex. We still haven't left the neighborhood, but I'm feeling a lot more comfortable on the bike. Hoping to squeeze in some rides on 'real' roads this weekend. We will be camping in Prescott before you know it. :ylsmoke:

Did glad your bike is running better! Did they tell you what they did? Was it jetting or a combination of things?
