I've had 285/75R16 Duratracs on my JKU for almost 2 years now. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend them. While they look great and do perform well in multiple conditions, they don't balance well. If Goodyear could improve their quality control on this tire, I would have no problem recommending it. My next set of tires will not be Duratracs. I'll probably go back to BFG's.

I have a Sport "S" --- sold the stock tires to DT for $120/each and immediately put on ST-Maxx, no lift.
Got the Maxx's for $177/each.
Great all around tire.
I lifted it to pull the trailer better
Tires were wearing okay. At 37,000 miles the worst was at 6/32 and best at 8/32. Sold the Maxx's and the stock wheels to DT for $80/each and bought Procomp 7089 16x8 alloys for $98/each and Cooper ST 285/75-16 for $186/each.
Wanted the same size tire & wheel on the Jeep as on the trailer and the stock wheels didn't fit the trailer....
The ST has 2/32 more tread than the ST-Maxx (for some reason) and a slightly less aggressive lug pattern. So far they work just fine in everything they've encountered. I hear they're not as good in snow though...

Falken just announced a new tire that I think has a lot of potential, at least in my application, which is a lot of rock, with lots of highway in between, the Wildpeak AT/3W. They probably won't be anywhere near available for 6-8 months but Falken is promising a wide variety of sizes in D range. I like the tread design in that it has a lot of diagonal/lateral cut with a lot of siping which is what you need for snow and ice as well as off road traction. The small size of the blocking and the arrangement should provide quiet highway driving with reduced/slowed wear over similarly sized MT tires.

I've been reading this thread on and off since I'm looking for a 33" tire for my Rover but missed this post.
I'm currently running a 32" Duratrac (275/65-18) on my Rover and have NO problems with it wrt balance or out-of-round. They roll nicely. After 20K miles in about 2 years they still have over half tread left and have done reasonably well in most off-road situations. I've run them in rocks, dirt, snow, sand, mud, gravel, etc. They were extremely quiet initially but have become noticeable with wear. I do a 5 tire rotation every 5000 miles.
My only real complaint is the usual one for a Duratrac - not strong enough for rock use. All 5 tires have significant tread chunking or tearing and gouges in the sidewalls. While these are E rated tires (my Rover is north of 7500 lbs) they just aren't strong enough for heavy rock work. Other than that they've been quite good.
I would easily recommend them to somebody so long as they weren't planning to do any significant rock crawling. For a dual-purpose rig, especially one that will see snow where these tires really shine, I think they are an excellent option.

I run a set of 285/70-17 Hankooks and really like them for a couple reasons.
1. 50k mile warranty.
2. At $120 each they're pretty cheap.
3. They're available at pretty much any Discount tire and Wal-Mart, so if you happen to gash a sidewall or something a replacement is not hard to find.

P metric all-terrains?
285/70/17 duratracs on black rock wheels here. I'm at about 37k on them with close to 50% tread life left. I do a 5 tire rotation every 5-7k. They do seem to take a little more weight to balance vs the bfg at's I used to run but they still ride every bit as good. They do well off road from mud to Moab, telluride and the white sands of the OBX. I've never had a better tire in the snow also and I always thought the bfg at's were excellent in snow. I just wish they'd hurry up and wear out so I can get 315 duratracs, the 3.8 just won't let you powerbrake no matter how hard you try...
