What a treat! Grand Cherokee Diesel just showed up..

it's approved by CARB and all, it's just that we have a law here preventing the sales of new Diesel vehicles below a certain weight. That's why used Liberties with the CRD cost more than new ones here.

Couldn't you just purchase the vehicle in Nevada and bring it back to California to register it. Or does it have to be registered in Nevada first?

You have register it in another state and put a certain amount of miles on it before you bring it here. So i've heard.

7500 mi before registration in CA, that goes for any non-CA vehicle though.

My first vehicle was a diesel. 1986 Chevy Luv Diesel 4x4(Isuzu Mikado body style).

Burned 1 quart of oil every day, and the front tires went flat every other. My dad didnt want me going fast and he meant it. We swapped the engine out for a new J-spec and sold it about a year later.

I still kick myself in the butt over that one.

Fergie is right. You can buy it and register it out of state. I am not endorsing it (technically illegal to do so :D), but it is very easy to do. Then, once you have 7,501 miles, you can legally register it in CA.

For anyone interested, check out www.ausjeepoffroad.com

They have a very cool section for WJs, most with TDs!

There is also a company in TX that is converting WJs to diesel using the Euro, or South Asia variant with very good success.

I bought my diesel liberty in vegas, registered it with relatives address in vegas, drove it 1 year in ca then registered it here.

He got 18mpg up there and 14 on the way back. Not very impressive. Said it towed fine, nothing out of the ordinary. It was funny cause he said the stupid back up sensor thingies kept going off everytime he backed up with the trailer attached. lol
