Sent it on a field trip!

We sent our Jeep off to get a Cummins 4BT diesel engine, Dana 60 axles, and a second fuel tank installed, along with other sundry items to make it more durable, reliable, and ready for the conditions we will face in Africa.

Bought a handful (5) of fenders to work with to mod into a set of quick and dirty "flares" until I decide on how I want the final versions to be. These are 36L x 19H x 10W (14g IIRC) if anyone was curious. I know I'm not ready for these yet but they were on sale for a crazy cheap price and a common size so I can continue to get them if I screw one up during the build or on a trail.

Removed the stock roof rack (I've used it twice in almost 6 years). It cut a ton of noise when driving on windy days and pulled 12 pounds or so off the top of the Jeep. I also threw a set of 3/4" wheel spacers on that have been sitting around for a while.

Turns out, I fixed a steering wobble with wheel spacers... Between the slightly taller than stock tires and the offset upper ball joints for more negative camber up front, I'd reduced the scrub radius pretty close to zero. Adding some positive scrub back in with the spacers ended up making the steering much more stable over bumps. And the one set of train tracks that could induce mild DW no longer even causes bumpsteer.

Installed a set of take-off Rubicon rock rails to give me some protection and hold me over until I can get something more substantial. Also replaced the cheap JVC headunit that was in the Jeep when I bought it with an OEM unit.

Nothing exciting, brought a 6.5 foot long massage/doctor's table thing home.
Then kicked the crap out of the rusting running boards and sawzall'd the boards off. I'll unbolt the rest of the mounts later. Lazy ******!

Picked up a set of Bushwacker flat fender flares and a Bolt hood lock today...can't wait to get the fenders on. Should change the looks of the jeep a lot!

Installed a set of JW Speaker Evo Js today. Man what a difference! I knew the stock lights were crap, but didn't realize how bad they were until tonight. Reflective signs actually reflected back!
