What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

2t2-crash

Observer
I swapped out my cracked and jacked up driver's seat pan for one in good condition from the junk yard and now my seat tilts like it is supposed to.
Plus I realized I did not properly set preload on my gear box after I rebuilt it this weekend so I get to re do that.

Picked up a new Goal Zero 90 solar panel & Yeti 400. New to figure out how to mount the panel to my roof rack and secure the Yeti inside.

After breaking the front gears in December, I have now broke the RCV's and cracked the pitman arm. I've cleaned/ checked everything in the front. Had to replace hubs(1 bad) and install the u-joint axles and oem pitman while I wait for the warranty RCV's and a hd pitman. Also replaced the whining p/s pump, installed HID headlights, and replaced the failed CrawlerReady motor mounts for some Ironman mounts. Welded up the unibody by motor mount, roof, and two massive 8" gaps in the rear. And a bunch of little things everywhere. Oh and seat covers 👍🏻

I don't wheel it to hard, but I go 6-7 times a month easy. And really haven't had many problems in the 5yrs since Ive built it

Not really earth shattering but I wanted to give myself a break. Decided a simple project I could knock out was a tip for the exhaust. The tailpipe was to short and I figured I could whip something up and burn off some creative juices. I've had the idea a while and got it done.
With a nod towards jeeps 7 slat grille heritage I offer this...
Don't laugh to hard.... haha.
Tomorrow I start on roof rack 3.0

Replaced my ancient OEM stabilizer with a newer Skyjacker. Waiting on the black boot I wanted but for now bump steer is gone!
Also threw on my light bar and wired it up.

I made pretty good progress today. Got my "custom" exhaust tip installed. Then I moved on to the roof rack. The "free" rack I was hoping to use turned out to be aluminum. And while that's probably fine and it is very light weight, I can't weld it and didn't want to mess with trying to tie it into my steel supports. Good thing is what was welded popped right off. So I set to it and made good progress. I'd guess I'm about 1/3-1/2 way done depending on how all the sanding and painting will take. I got far enough that I decided to play with my oddball swing UP tire carrier. I rushed it and accidentally burned a couple crossbars in crooked so I decided that was enough for today. Not sure how this will work, or if it even will... but we'll see.

Interesting...
If you're referring to my lift up idea, thanks. It's going to be challenging to say the least. My thought is to find a way to use a garage door torsion spring to provide the strength needed to raise the spare tire with the hatch. Hopefully I can design it for one handed operation which is sorta the point for avoiding the swing out design. Access to the rear with a hatch while having to keep walking around the swing out sucks.
Biggest conundrum is how to get the two to raise together even though the arc of the hatch is different from the tire carrier. Should be a brain buster.

Yes, I followed a thread on another forum where a guy was trying to do the same thing. I believe he failed, but its been a long time, and he may have found the answers he needed by now. He basically hinged a frame for the swing up, then fastened it to the bottom of the hatch for reinforcement, and kinda forgot the geometry meant that it would bind up and not work. Id like to see it done. If I ever get to do the exo cage Id like, a swing-up tire carrier of some sort would be nice.

Yeah.. the geometry is gonna be the butt kicker. Thankfully math isn't my strong point. Haha. I'm sure there will be a lot of trial and error on this. Sadly it may get mothballed for a bit when we move next month. But I'll keep working on ideas if it turns out to be too tough a nut to crack.

Started welding up the aluminum for my JKU roof rack, and these came in the mail today...

Dynatrac HD ball joints and RCV tube seals... I have had 2 set of Synergy ball joints got bad in 12 months... Hope this solves that problem.
