What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Driveshaft fell out at about 50mph. Managed to come to a near complete stop before it slid all the way off the diff yoke. Looks like the driveshaft holes were stretched somehow (maybe from me???) and one of the retaining clips came out, resulting in the cap coming off...and you can figure out the rest.

I made another driveshaft (cut down a ZJ shaft) but I'm getting some vibes due to the angle of the dangle with how the 8.8 was welding (I must have been a couple degrees off, joy). Looks like I'm buying a hack n' tap, swapping the tcase output shaft from my current t-case to the 4 cyl's 231, and making my own driveshaft (I have a spare XJ front shaft in the garage)

I run a rear mounted front shaft with an 8.8 and H&T. It's a good setup but remember, you'll need to address the 8.8s flange yoke. Mine sits on about 5"s of lift and I'd guess I have more extension than compression for the shaft. May want to pull some numbers before hunting for a donor shaft. There are a couple lengths out there.

I've generally stayed away from the cheaper knock-off brands of LED lights.. but thought I'd give them a try with some fog light replacements.

I have my day time running lights set to fog lights, so they're always on. We'll see how well they last! $57 vs the $550 for brand name so we'll see.

Cool

Ill be interested in your long term review.
I've always wondered how that style would work out.

I'm running some 6" 35 watt chinese off-road type LED's on my TJ
Have been for nearly a year now. So far so good.
They are seriously bright :Wow1:

Combine that with the sealed beam conversion on this old TJ, and it actually has some good lighting.
The factory lighting was terrible!

If you go to the link for my previous build, before it was totaled, I have a post in there somewhere with all the different length XJ shafts I think

What sort of bar mounting hardware is that?

I used the regular sized quickfists: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CQPANY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Along with the bar mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ID6CN5S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a bit of a pain in the *** to mount. I also ended up trimming the metal strap that goes through the mount with a dremel along with cutting off the top of one of the mounts since it was sticking up too high for no reason. It's more for supporting the large quick fists though.

Once I trimmed all that and sits nicely ontop of the lower gobi bar if you mount to the top one.

This weekend I extended the differential breather hoses. The rear goes up into the taillight area and the front is ziptied to the underside of the hood.

How are you liking the new set-up?

So far so good. Gears aren't fully broken in yet so I haven't really put my foot in it yet. Torque converter is loose enough that it doesn't really feel any different under light throttle on the street other than shifting earlier and higher cruising RPM. I'm sure it'll be very different when I lean on the throttle a bit. Haven't had it in 4wd yet, so I haven't gotten to try out the true-trac.

Replaced the struts for the hood and liftgate. I didn't get to do the lift gate glass due to a crap left side hinge (won't let it open all the way) but at least I don't have to hold the hood up with my head anymore!!

That alone is worth the price of the shocks :)

Had a wheel fall of the TJ....yes...a wheel. :Wow1:

Went through and triple checked everything, not sure how it happen...take note! It can happen to anyone!

Topped off fluids, drove it for a change. Cut the flares down. Swapped the wheels back. Installed the 8.8.
