What is a good Jeep Forum?

another nod for JeepForum.com. Good folks there.
WranglerForum also if you get a Wrangler; a kinder/gentler forum.

Pirate isn't worth the foulness, egos, and nonsense.

Pirate is a good, but please don't go there expecting to ask noobie questions. They really are rather rough on that type of stuff but are getting better.

That really depends on where you ask the questions. The forums are set up for non-hardcore newbie questions and hardcore non-newbie questions. If you ask a newbie non-hardcore question in the wrong forum they will jump on you. It is pretty clearly marked which is which.

Having said that, for the most part Pirate4x4 is a hard core rock crawling forum. This can be intimidating to many people and if you are just looking for mild bolt on upgrades Pirate may not be the best place for you.

However a lot of what goes on there can and does translate even to the mild off roaders needs and expectations. Some on there are fabricating gods. :Wow1:

If you pay attention to what you are posting and where and follow the rules Pirate can be a great place. If you don't want anything to do with that, there are plenty of other forums. Never be offended because a forum is not "your type" of forum, just look elsewhere for a place you fit in. :)

For Jeep information:
jeepforum.com has been very helpful for jeep specific info (and noob friendly)
I lurk at pirate4x4.com for customizing info (not very noob friendly though)
and my local 4x4 club.

As for CJs.
Replace the CJ frame with a YJ frame.
OR
Put a CJ front end on a YJ. I hear that's cool too!

Look at some of the RV forums if you have questions about flat towing your Jeep behind an RV. I would also go by your local RV shop and see what they recommend.

If this is your first Jeep then I would probably look real hard at a Wrangler YJ that has fuel injection. They are much easier as far as smog and electronic engine controls to work on than a CJ-7. And you can get one cheaper than a 7 too most of the time. And they are usually more dependable with less maintenance than a 7. I love the ride of a TJ and would get it over a YJ but for a trail rig a YJ works goo. My personal favorite Jeep website is M715zone but it is geared for just a couple of specific Jeep models.

yes the CJ's are just that. CJ. the wrangler did not come along until chrysler bought amc in the 80's. the YJ is the first wrangler. i miss my 75 CJ-5 levis edition renegade and my 77 CJ-7. both were great.
