I have few extra Hella work lights floating around, most are new. Some are 2 bulb double beam w/ free form, others are single free form reflector.... I'll dig up some pics if they interest you.

Yeah, I'd be interested, Thanks

If you have the extra cash, lightforce's all the way! Baja Designs and Vision X's are damn good lights as well. KC's have just recently released a new HID that is supposed to trump any on the market overall ( size, material comp, wattage, cost). Naturally whatever fits the budget, application, and your liking will be the best ones.

I'm a big fan of the VisionX Motorsports lights. I am not seeing any metion of them here on ExPo but they are definitely well known in the Baja curcuit. They do have a line of incandescent lights but are better known for their HID and LED lighting. They are definitely the front runners in using LED for offroad lighting applications. In a lot of ways LED makes a lot of sense.

1) Vibration resistance
2) Lower amp draw
3) Long Life
4) Less heat

Check them out. I am putting a set of the adjustable beam HID 6503 on my new ARB bumper in a week or so. They are in-cab adjustable from pencil spot to flood beam at the touch of a button.

When I get a roof rack speced and built for an RTT I plan to add a 42" LED bar across the front for additional lighting. After seeing the review pics on their site between regular high-beams vs. two HID 6500 series vs. Xmitter 42" LED bar I was sold: Xmitter Page

There is no doubt the light output is top notch, but I don't know how anyone in their right mind can justify $1500 for the light you mentioned.

well depending on what you do off road and what you need on road. personally i have run everything from KCs to those cheaper schucks lights. honestly i havent had a whole lot of luck with either of those. however i have found some good replacements.

the hella 500s are great, low draw, great durability. but for corner lighting in the woods you cant beat a cheap set of rubber housed tractor lights. they are a great flood light not the brightest for long distance but when it comes to seeing whats around the corner they work great. plus since they are rubber housed, they have aswome durability. i know guys that run these things as rock lights and they get bashed up all the time.

this is what they look like.

I've run the LF170's on the front bumper of my LC for the past 3-years. They are TOUGH! I often travel down overgrown trails, etc. and they continue to amaze me by their durability. And you won't have to worry about cracking a lense from any road debris thrown upon them! And they don't vibrate.

They are good output to about 50-55mph gravel/off-road type roads.

My vote is lightforce...

I have had the Lightforce Stryker 170s for about a year, and they are AWESOME. My next upgrade will be to convert these to HID someday. These are all that I need.

I have three AS 115 FF double beam Hella lamps. They have 2 35W(?) bulbs which can switched individually. 1 is complete, used for testing, near new. 2 are new in box but missing the lower half of the mounting bracket which can be had for under $5. These sell for $45 - $50.

I also have two single beam square FF lamps with handles. They are similar to the Hella Matador, but square... hard to find. One used, one NIB. Not sure what these sell for.

I'll take some pics if you can't find them under a search.

I upgraded my headlights to 80W low beam / 100 W high beams and LOVE the results! I do not blind other cars due to Toyota's great light design and can see very comfortably at night. For back roads - you just can't beat LightForce's! They are durable, make a great beam of light and are easily adjusted between spot and flood. The snap on lens just add to their value.

Update: I just installed a set of 6503 HID lights this weekend. They are BRIGHT. Very well made. I also have a set of clear covers for them with Butyl rubber seals that seal out dust, etc. making it easy to clean the lights off without having to remove the covers. They have very high quality harnesses included with the lights so install was a snap.

Also do any of you use lower output lights pointing outward (around the corner) then brighter lights pointing forward. Thanks

Sure do. For night time trail driving, having a continuous light spread from behind your left shoulder to around the right as far as you can see will greatly enhance your sense of position on the trail as well as fully illuminate the terrain. Once you try this kind of light spread, just having forward pointing high output lights won't do. Small floods work just fine. They only have to reach out 50 or 60 feet. I would not use flat-topped fogs for this (like projectors). Use a full coverage flood light of 55W halogen in about a 5 inch size. Mount them on the outside of the A-pillar pointing slightly forward and slightly down.
