I'd also suggest the full size van. It will do everything you want and will be a better option than a pickup for your trips up north. There is a nice black 4x4 E350 on the local dealer lot I've been lusting after recently:drool:

Flip-pac camper on the back with a built in 'camper' or sorts.

Depending on exactly what the budget is, a Sportmobile with 4x4 and a diesel seems to almost be a perfect off the shelf solution.
