"What'd she cost?", or "how much did you pay?"

One of the BMW forums I am a member of has a thread that is simply a listing of car specs and the price you paid. It works out as a great reference for price points, also offers members a place to brag about great deals they got.

I submit that we do the same here please include Make, Model, price paid, and what your van had at time of purchase. In addition any pictures of your van from about the time of the purchase. It will be cool to see where some of these vans started before they are all customized.

lets see what bubbles up:coffeedrink:

You kidding. The beemers I've owned cost less than my 4x4 van !

I always have to smile at one of those 65k king ranch trucks at a light next to a ridiculously expensive BMW.

You do realize that the person who suggests such a thing usually goes first.

'03 Astro awd bought 5 years old in Feb '08 for $8k w/ 55k mi.

Pop top pd $6k
(I well remember my 100th night sleeping in the pop top as it brought the cost down to $60/night. :coffeedrink:)

Lift kit and suspension pd $1k ish ??? Seems high, but now I really can't remember why I think a grand. Oh well.

Tcase mod $200

4:10s and locker $2k

First brand new set of all terrains plus Chev 5 spoke rims $500

Total investment < $18k

Overall long term review : just returned from 6 day 1700 mi round trip through Owyhee , over 425 mi. off pavement with plenty of 4Lo. Luv it more than ever. I've never owned a vehicle for this long before. Currently 112,500 mi, no major repairs, routine maintenance only, and that's with the van seeing terrain that GM engineers never dreamed it would.

I'll play.
Just got my 2003 E350 7.3l PSD in April.
185k, oil leaks, fuel leak, lotsa dents, needed love.
$3700.00 brought her home.

Reman turbo, HPOP seals, oil pan re-seal, water pump, t-stat, diff service, trans service, coolant temp sensor, and a couple other things to get her sorta baselined got me up to $6800.
Windows (still waiting to install more), stereo w/ BU cam, hella horns, seats for the kids (F-150), and some new-to-me doors from a parts van, plus a few more things I'm forgetting has me at 8500 last check. I've got quite a ways to go...

here's a shot the day she came home.

1980 e350 converted by cayel craft. 4wd conversion in Colorado...not sure who did it. It's butch looking, but a dana 60 high pinion:coffeedrink:
52000 original miles on a sweet sounding 460
C6/205
On board generator that can be started from driver seat.
Winch
360 lighting
Rear heat and ac
On and on.

I gave $4200 to an old retired customer of mine for it. I thought the sum of the parts were worth more than that. I really wanted the stainless body, as we live on a dirt road that loves to ruin metal.

My son and I spent our first night in it last night. It will be a build at the campsite project. I'm so stoked.

I'll work on some more pics for a build thread.

Can I keep these lights?

One more all lit up. Huge alternator, dual battery setup with new matched batteries. New too small tires.

It's not bragging, but I do own a bmw:bike_rider:

The kids love it.....which helps because the wife does not.

Okay, seriously. This is a bit of a tricky topic here since many of these vans are odd ball "one off" creations that were either bought in various states of build or are still mid build. Unlike mostly factory optioned cars like the BMW that even when modified have a "relatively" short list of mods.

My vans for example were completely one off deals and builds where the purchase price and options don't reflect the true market value, or what anyone would be able to duplicate them for.

I am a little surprised at yhe amount of people that seem put off by yhis thread. Maybe I was misunderstood. My curiosity is in the amount spend to purchase. If you want to add your total expendable that's fine too. I think it's interesting to are who is buying brand new vans to outfit and who is buying guarantee 1000 dollar basket cases. I was heavily involved the the Jeep community for a while and it was not unusual to see a 500 dollar jeep, with 10k worth of upgrades. On the BMW forum it was interesting to see what going rates were, and be able to pat people on the back or be able to brag on good deals found. (For the record my BMW was about 5k). Decent deal for the year and mileage.

Southpier: your post adds nothing to this thread, I am not knocking the premise that you want to keep private info private, but advertising how you want to keep tight lipped does nothing for me

Cole I have the upmost respect for your efforts, your vans, your thoughts and opinions. I have followed your builds carefully. I understand your point, that is why I am clarifying now, my curiosity is how much people are spending on their starting platform. Not necessarily how much they have into their total rig, although that could be valuable info too for anyone who is willing to share.
