What's it worth? ech...

First let me apologize for this post. I hate "What's it worth?" threads, but I need some input from those who have been shopping lately.

I've got someone who is interested in buying the topper for my T100. It's been off the truck since I purchased the FWC and I don't see using it again so I'm willing to let it go. Toppers for the oddball T100 are hard to come by (even though 1st gen Tundras and early Dakotas share the same measurements) but I know something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It's a Raider brand with a driver's side 'windoor' and anchor pads for a Thule or Yakima rack. Most fiberglass toppers are retailing new for $1200-$1500. This one is close to 10 years old but in great shape.

I don't want to scare the guy off by asking too much. As hard as a T100 topper is to come by, so is finding a potential buyer for said topper. So I'm thinking $500-ish....?

Usually I would check CL and eBay for a price comparison but there don't seem to be enough available to get a decent price check.

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Toppers are tough for all the reasons you pointed out. You can't realistically ship it, so you need a local buyer with the exact size and color requirements. There's no substitute for the convenience of a local sale.

I like the "50% of retail" rule for something that's in nearly as good condition as new, but has been used and obviously comes without that brand new smell. And it is 10 years old, so there's got to be an age discount...

Expect that he might counter though, so ask higher than what your lowest price would be.

Most used toppers in my area go for $150-$200. I picked mine up for free, needing a front glass, and another for $60. I resold the second one for $200, and had a backup buyer if that fell through.

My full size chevy topper sold for $250.

The T100 is rare compared to the Tacoma and the Chevy, though. I agree $500-$600 is reasonable, especially with the windoor and artificial gutters. You can always drop from there...

Make sure you know how much it is worth to you to keep it. E.g. the buyer may only be willing to pay $400, but the ability to have/use it if the need arises may be worth more than that to you.

Honestly, about $300. Toppers just don't hold their value.

As a side note, I have a Roll N Lock cover I got when I purchased the truck. New it's around $1500. Now, I can barely give it away....

Funny, I thought you were selling your T100 at first :smilies27

Das not funny at all.....:violent-smiley-031:

Good points Matt and Bill. Luckily he's fairly local but I don't know what color his T100 is. I may have to throw it on my trailer and haul it 100 miles to him, no biggie. It's been sitting on sawhorses in the backyard for almost 2 years now. I just don't see needing it.

I may even bump up the price $100 and throw in my old Thule Playpen too. Maybe I should figure out what $200-$500 mod I want next and sell the topper for that exact price.......:snorkel:

Thanks for the input gents -
