What's The Deal With The GX470 ?

Checking AutoTrader with a 100 mile radius I see tons of used GX's for sale and hardly any LC's . So besides being a little shorter whats the difference between a 04-05 GX and a 04-05 LC ? Are the GX's rugged enough and capable of mild to moderate off roading ? No rocks, just getting out in the woods and trail riding . Yea I know the running boards would have to go and I also know that the LX is basically a rebadged LC . Big difference in used car price though .

I think there are a lot more GX's and 4Runners made than LC's and LX's. I looked at a used GX but I wanted more space.

I *think* they are pretty capable when they aren't spontaneously rolling over and all...

My brother was looking for a 4runner but ended up with a GX because there were more for sale. The salesman told him when the economy took a dive a bunch of people with a Lexus unloaded them. Not sure if its true.

A few years ago I worked at the Amangani (4 star hotel) as a valet/chauffer/bellman. They had a fleet of LXs and GXs used to shuttle the guests around. I really liked the GX470s they were plenty stable going up and down a steep, very twisty road multiple times a day. They really worked well on washboarded and bumpy gravel roads and the traction control was great in the winter time. I never took them off road but I think it would be a good luxury expo vehicle.

I think there were many more made and they are on the Lexus 3 year lease cycle.

We have one and it is great. The power to weight ratio is much better than the 100. Bascially the same engine and drivetrain and 800lbs lighter. Feels like a sport truck compared to my 100.

I saw the Toyota Prado 120 version while I was in E. Europe last year. They look really cool. They look more utilitarian than the US GX model. I believe they have a solid front axle, but a for sure factory diesel and factory rear spare tire carrier.... I think there is some over on the MUD boards that are wheeling and working on them.
