What's this 2006 tacoma worth?

Yeah, I probably wouldn't even worry about the rear, as I would probably just cut it off for a bumper anyway. The doors damage would bother me, so that would probably be my first priority. Thanks for the input guys, it's very helpful. If anyone has any other input, feel free to comment. I need to make a decision tonight or tomorrow morning.

There has to be better deals out there....

I've been looking for quite some time...

Here are some average examples of what I see daily. Been looking off and on for about a year.

http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/1044530?ad_cid=1 <-- 2006 White DC auto TRD 150K $19,500

http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/1042271?ad_cid=9 <-- 2007 White DC auto TRD 96K $19,500 (I know the guy that's selling that one, he won't come down anywhere near $17,500.)

http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/1040576?ad_cid=12 <-- 2007 Silver DC manual SR5 110K $22,000 (accidents and form the rust belt until last year -Carfax.)

http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/1001281?ad_cid=5 <-- 2007 red DC auto SPORT 117K $21,000 (repo from east coast auto auction - Carfax.)

There are some that are way out of line, http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/999196?ad_cid=8 <-- 2007 DC SPORT "ONLY" 199K miles, $17,900

The thing is, I'll have my eye on one like any of those top 4 and they sell within the week. The TRD DC's are just crazy expensive... Ex cabs aren't so bad, but I need 4 doors.

Come to think of it, I've checked the carfax of tons of east coast auto auction trucks... Maybe it's because they sell for more in Utah? Guess so...

TRD?

So what is it about the TRD that makes it the one you want? Is it the rear locker because IIRC you can add a full ARB air-locker system, to include compressor, for around $1500. The other TRD specific goodies are the likes of better wheels and suspension but, again, you can add those on later to a non-TRD.

There are even places on line that will sell you a TRD sticker if that's really what you need ;) So I think maybe that's what's tripping you up, you are looking at a limited production model, the TRD. If you expand your search to include non-TRD trucks, you can probably find one for quite a bit less. I'd also look at other metro areas - Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, even Denver.

I wouldn't pay a dime over 16k. Even though the damage wouldn't cost a ton to fix, they will only get top dollar if they pay to fix it before they sell it. The camper may be valuable to you if you want it, but used aftermarket parts add little value to vehicle asking price.

There are a lot of reasons why I want the e-locker... I test drove Box Rockets old blue SAC truck, he had ARB lockers front and rear and they were squirting oil out of the lines. Like the breathers weren't working. At the time, I did some more research and found similar and worse problems than that with them. Didn't want to mess with install and all that. If I did find a Doublecab for $15k, v6 4x4 and auto with 83k, I would buy it. I would figure out lockers later, but from my research 9 years ago, I'd probably just want to get an e-locker. Plus, they tend to be in the most demand. The only reason I want that model is for the decals, I NEED people to realize that I have a TRD model. I want people walking down the street to bow down to me on my way to work. I can only get that with a true TRD model.

That, and I've had the e-locker for the last 8 years and haven't had any problems with it. I have looked for a great deal from Los Angeles to Salt Lake and everywhere between. Anyway, thanks so much for your replies. I can't get them to go any lower and will probably pick it up, even if I am over paying a little.

Hey, if it's what you want, the only question would be if it's worth it to YOU.

AND IF it is, go for it.

I overpaid for my 4runner because I really, really did not want a black, white, gray or silver vehicle (the most common 4th gen 4runner colors.) I told myself this: If I pay a little too much, I'll regret it when I buy it.

But if I "settle" on something that I really don't want, I'll regret it every time I get in it.

So I just applied the old "buy the best and cry once" vs "settle and cry a lot" formula. ;)

I know this is the Toyota forum, but if you want to save some money you should look at Nissan Frontiers. For some reason Tacomas have like a $5000 price premium over Frontiers. In my opinion they are basically the same truck.

That's what we call the "Toyota tax". I figure, they hold value so well, the tax transfers over to when you sell it.

I always told myself I'd never sell my extended cab TRD... It was perfect for me until I got married... A little mancub is probably in the future, so the DC will be good. So, once I buy it, I'll likely keep it forever because I certainly won't have more than 2 kiddos... Hopefully.

But yes, I have looked at other options, Nissan included... I just keep coming back to the Tacoma. Brand loyal? I don't think so... I guess Toyota just "gets me".

Thought about looking in another geography? TX seems to have fairly low prices, at least compared to here in TN and the upper Midwest. Bought my last 1st gen dcab in TX and made money on it when I sold it' the dealer had it for a week and got nearly 20k for it here in TN. After looking for 2nd bens, I somewhat stole m y '10. Took a while, but the good ones are there.
