I had originally though this was the OBDII outlet, but now I'm not sure, doesn't look like the ones I've seen online. Anybody know what it is?

That looks like one of those after market code-key ports. If you do not have the code-key, and your vehicle starts, I'm assuming it's disabled. Does the LED ever come on?

I have not seen it come on yet. I have these StarGuard stickers on the window, could that be part of the system? There is no alarm that I can see in the vehicle, the PO didn't mention it and he was the original owner.

Yup, that's it. StarGard is a Pass Key theft deterrent system.

If you don't have the key in it to start the car, clearly it's bypassed.

ok, thats it. Must have been installed at the dealership for on the lot protection. The PO had no idea what it was for. Is it worth turning back on?

Only if you want electrical gremlins. I've yet to see an add-on security system that didn't invite those along for the ride too.

I agree... I hate alarms, especially when they are going off in camp.

Expedition vehicles lend themselves better to an ignition kill (that you install), a club and other visual security methods. Factory "alarms" are usually ok, like the ones that honk the horn if someone opens a door that is locked, etc.

No alarms for me, I took it that this system is kind of an ignition kill switch in that it won't power the starter without a second code key in the plug.

I've done Kill switches in older LCs. They are generally easy to bypass though. In my last LC I put in a shift lock and liked it a lot. I may do it on this truck as well.

Just for my edification, what's the best way to do a kill switch on '03 Tacoma? (I'm used to older engine without all the extra electronics).

My preferred method:

The red part is a removable key. It's not a very sophisticated key, but unless someone is familiar with these switches they won't easily by-pass it.
Note though that if you simply put this between the battery and everything else that the computer will have to go through the re-learn process every time you use it. Will also delete any volatile memory (radio pre-sets, etc.) unless you provide them with power.
One way to do this and avoid those issues is to interrupt battery power to the starter only. One truck that I know has done this strictly for anti-theft has the switch carefully hidden in the fenderwell area.
