What's your go to blanket for camping?

I spent a couple weeks living in my RTT while I traveled from Florida to Colorado and back. While camping I used my Marmot sleeping bag which was comfortable but not great. After a few days I got used to sleeping in it and all was well, especially on the cooler nights, but I would like to use a blanket on my next trip. I would especially enjoy it when my wife joins me on trips.

So what is everyone using? I have seen the Rumple Puffy blankets and they have great reviews, but are they worth the coin? Our sleeping bags were reasonably priced and purchased from Dicks, but the more I get into this "overlanding" thing, the more money I am willing to spend on quality products. A quality blanket would finish off the sleeping arrangements and make the wife happy. Happy wife, happy life.

I keep an old US Army wool blanket in the truck for various tasks but most are not that warm in my opinion. My favorite by far has been the Italian wool officer's blankets that were selling for like $15/each a few years ago (folk's have them listed for well over $100 on ebay now). I bought three and wish I'd have bought a couple of more. Large, thick, heavy and very well made, a round in the dryer with one of those dry cleaning sheets and a fabric softener sheet and they are really comfortable.

I'd like to try one of those sleeping bag style blankets/comforter but they're expensive as well.

I use a U.S. Navy wool blanket that my dad purchased at a surplus store in the early 1960's. It is much thicker than the surplus Army blankets I've seen. Sometimes, when it is expected to be really cold, I also bring along a Pendleton wool car blanket that I purchased at a Pendleton outlet store.

We use a quilt and sheet during the summer and when it starts to get cold, switch the quilt for a heavier comforter. Just like sleeping at home.

Costco fleece blankets. $20. Cozy, work when moist.
Comforter over the top if it's really really cold.

we use for ourselves a Outwell two persons sleeping bag.

For our customers we offer the modulair sleeping bags of the Dutch army, a summer and autumn bag, which can be combined and then will be good for -30 or so.

We use a Wiggy's two person sleeping bag one side is rated at 0 degrees and the other side is rated at 20 degrees. We love it all year round.

My wife bought me this blanket for Xmas and I love it!

It's size adds to it's versatility. I've used alone numerous times. Also, over, under, or both combined with whatever sleeping bag I think is going to be appropriate. If I guess wrong on the bag, adding this blanket to the mix worked well for me for the last year. I'm using it in a small ground tent or occasionally in the back of a van. It went with me on every trip this year.

Great company to deal with BTW

I keep a 0 degree jumbo flannel lined sleeping bag in the van. If it's really cold, I sleep in it. If it's just cold (30-50 or so), I unzip it and use it as a comforter. During the warmer weather, I use a light down blanket that Costco sells this time of year for just $20 or my now vintage USA made Marmot 40 degree semi-rectangular down bag. I never sleep in it, just unzipped as a comforter.

A Hudson Bay Company 6-point wool blanket bought by my parents at the Hudson Bay Company store in Victoria, B.C back in 1967. Almost 50 years old and still as warm as ever.

ComfortTech Stratton 3M Thinsulate Blanket. A little expensive, but it's machine washable (don't throw it in the dryer above minimum heat), comfortable as hell, and warm as hell. $100 on amazon for a king size that you can lose yourself in. I have two of them, my mother bought two after she stayed with us, and my sister bought one after she stole the one that I bought for her baby daughter. 3 years of use in mine and I have absolutely zero complaints.

I was blitzing a drive across the country in my soft-top miata last thanksgiving and had to passout somewhere around amarillo at 3am - crazy windy and cold. After filling the tank with gas I couldn't feel my limbs and was shivering like a druggie suffering withdrawl. Five minutes after wrapping myself up with this blanket in the driver's seat I was sleeping like a baby.

We use either an old down comforter in a fleece or flannel cover or an unzipped down sleeping bag (non-mummy type). Hard to beat the comfort, warmth, weight, and compressibility of down for camping.
