Where can I shoot?

I have not read all the posts and some posts I don't see but two things when it comes to protecting your family and yourself. A gun locked in a box won't do you any good and better judged by 12 than carried by 6 (cliches I know).
Being from Montana everybody had a gun or multiple guns in their vehicle, heck never knew when you were going to have to shoot a rattlesnake...pretty sure most jurisdictions look at things differently when carrying something with the intention of committing a crime vs protecting yourself. Anybody have a draw full of steak knives or a tool box full of hammers?

A baseball bat carried for the purpose of defending yourself, is legally considered a "deadly weapon" in every state I've ever lived or worked in.

What about a "Not a flamethrower" ?

I could just see that turning into a court case and the arguments sounding like the "who's on first" routine

If you want to keep a little distance, wasp spray is another 'everyday' item that can be used defensively

I live in Grizzley Country, when I go out on the water I have a can strapped to my life vest and carry one in every car. We have ended up with over 5 cans to outfit guests. It would be my first go-to line of defense. I watched a video comparing the Wasp spray vs personal capsicum spray and the capsicum was much more accurate to getting spay on target.

one issue with bear spray is people don't practice with it because it is expensive. go waste a couple of cans and for sheetz and giggles spray yourself. It a oh crap moment that can happen and you should spray your self so you know how you will react. I have lost count of the times I have been sprayed and the more you get sprayed the less it affects you, never gets pleasant but at least you will know how you will react.

During academy, recruit officers get sprayed with OC directly in the face, and then immediately have to dump and cuff an intructor.

As tenured officers, we've all been subjected to it on the streets, and you can fight through it- it's only pain.

For that reason, OC is not my last line of defense, as offenders high on certain drugs don't feel pain...

From Idaho, for example:

Nowhere does that pertain to self defense.
And for good reason.

You might want to brush up on your self defense laws, 'cause its FAR from that simple ;)

I read an interpretation from a California police officer written in 2015. An RV is a home vehicle. When driving you are exposed to the laws of the vehicular code, when parked or camping it becomes a home and the rules change. The locking of guns in a separate location from the ammo, I have not seen any reference to that in the California laws. Am I missing one of the statutes or is the separate container thing to meet the needs of some other state?
Unfortunately, a police officer is not a reliable source of interpretation regarding laws passed by a legislature - even though they're the ones who enforce them. That's why we have courts. So while seemingly reasonable and that may guide his and some of his colleagues' decisions related to law enforcement, buyer beware on that piece of advice....

Odd that you should mention this use of wasp spray as a defense weapon today, as here is a picture in this morning’s Oregonian showing that as a (?) weapon of choice with this “protestor.”

(FWIW, I don’t advocate any premeditated use of any form of pesticide spray on humans)

What are you claiming? That Idaho has a "self defense" law that magically changes the legal definition of a deadly weapon into something other than a deadly weapon?

I posted a direct quote from your state's laws- if you have some claim to make to contradict that, post a direct quote from your state's laws to back it up, **********************...

And fundamentally, as some have responded with regards to INTENT and self defense, pretty much anything you have in your possession may be deemed a weapon of some sort, regardless of its original design/intent.

But at the end of the day, self defense is just that. The verbiage itself implies that you have no one to defend for you.
So its always gong to be safer to have something at hand to aid self defense. Regardless of "legality", that is always open to interpretation.

Pretty simple actually. Basic self defense law allows the would-be victim to to employ as much force is required to remove the threat.
