Which e350?

Pool chlorine is a serious oxidizer. I left a Coleman lantern on a shelf above some pool shock in a sealed tight bucket and it turned to red dust in 2 years.

Sandblast it down and paint it with POR-15. Then top coat with something UV resistant.

No sandblasterr :(
I have grinders and endless supply of sanding resin disks/ wire wheels from work. Thought about getting it down to as clean of metal as i can then slather with rust inhibitor.
Ill look into por-15....what is it? What does the uv resistant top coat do?

Found a few small spots that are rusted all the way through....uggghhhh

Figured id get a little investigative inside tearout going....and opened up a bucket of worms.

I checked the whole underside and it looked good. Definately had to be pool chemicals from the inside.
If i can just treat/stop it from getting worse then I think it will be ok since I only plan to take this out in nice weather.
I had a 67 chevy that wasnt this bad in the trunk :(

Sanding and such in between the floor ribs will be a pain. Two hours max with a sandblaster and it'll be done right into the corners you can't sand. Google POR-15.

Never tried by area. It's sold by the pint as it goes bad quickly once opened. Order a few. It looks like you'll find lots of places to use it. Again Google POR-15 and the word coverage and the quantity shows up.

Expensive is relative. How much would welding in a wrecking yard floor cost?

Rent a sandblaster for all that rusted area, anything else will take you days and hard labor.

Navel jelly removes rust, por15 changes the composition of it and then covers.
Good luck!

Anyone ever fab a diy sand blaster nozel? Ill look into that while I work on getting this running right.
Just ordered motorcraft plugs and ac delco coils which have worked great on my 3 other modular motor ford vehicles.

Going in the morning to get seafoam, pb blaster, air filter, fuel filter.

Not sure what to do about the cat hatchet job. Ill either have to fully gut them or find a delete pipe.... any leads of where to find one? Its for offroad use of course ;)

My obd2 bluetooth scanner crapped out on me. Think I should get another or just start throwing parts at it?

I would do the minimum amount of work I could to see if I could get the engine running properly, starting with checking your codes.

If you could not do that cheaply (couple hundred bucks) I would sell it and start over. If you can get it running reliably, I would then go with whatever method works best for dealing with the rust (best to me means quickest, most thorough = sand blast + POR15).

Regarding the chlorine and other pool chemicals, I wonder if there is any value in seeing if they need to be "neutralized" kind of in the way you use baking soda to neutralize battery acid. Or if a good blasting, cleaning, rust treatment will have the same affect? I'm just thinking out loud here, have no idea if the pool chemicals are a factor after all this time, or would be a factor after the rust/corrosion is removed, just something to consider.

For the exhaust, I would just replace the bad parts with stock, or just replace the whole thing once you get it running properly. If you don't want to replace the whole thing, I'd have a local muffler shop see if they can just bypass the cut up parts with new pipe and call it good.

Good luck with that thing, for $1100 bucks if you can get it running well and take care of the rust, it could be a decent deal. -Eddie

I've seen all kinds of homemade sand blasters on youtube. I'm assuming you don't have any buddies that own one? Do you belong to any local clubs or online groups you could ping to see if anyone would loan you or rent you one on the cheap?

I believe you can also rent them from equipment rental places, that might be your best bet.

I'd not try to DIY a sandblaster. Harbor Freight would likely have one for what it would cost to build.

The floor looks bad, but it likely isn't as bad as it looks. Remove the surface rust, patch as necessary, treat the rust, seal, paint, and forget about it. It's only the floor, and it'll be covered.

Got the wall tore out and the bench seat. Getting ready to rip out rest of the rubber floor. Its bad in spots. Crazy....looks spotless from below.
Im just going to gut the insides. Including front seats to make the plug/coil change easier. If i dont get it running good then nomore money will be spent on it. Got cops and plugs on the way. Everything is really solid on this thing except the back cargo floor.
I think it will be ok once cleaned,prepped,por-15 applied, patch a few holes, then insulate and lay down some treated ply.

Do you guuys suggest foamboard after the reflectix?

From what I've read, be sure to follow POR-15 instructions closely. And, don't get it on your hands, it won't come off till you loose that skin.

This. And the last sentence is Guaranteed. Before you tackle your POR-15 project do a google search on Hootus, and keep in mind this is a competing product with nowhere near the tenacity of POR-15 for sticking to pretty much everything.
