Which Overland Vehicle and Why?

Dodge PowerWagon is the best bet for 4 adults.... but how do you find 4 adults who want to travel together.

Today everyone wants independence. No one wants to lose that ability to go there own way.

I have been mulling one myself.

Good looking truck that is competent offroad, has plenty of room for a rear facing car seat or two and is still decent for towing.

I probably go 3-4 times a year with 2 or 3 others. Usually in my friend's truck, which is a lifted Tundra Crewmax. Our trips are usually 4-7 hour drive, one way, which we have done in a midsize truck (and it sucked).
Don't know how to answer that. Find better friends, I guess....

PW is a solid choice, though. But personally, I'd lean more towards a 1/2 ton for the mileage/range.

I took the rear seat out of my Tundra and made a dog bed and storage platform. Problem of bringing other humans along solved.

I am flat out having a hard time finding anything on the market that really jumps out at me.

I'm not sure what your requirements are, concerning capability and price. But the two I mentioned above is the direction I would personally go. You can get crazy with builds. I've seen people take their PW's up some crazy places. I'm not looking to do anything harder than say, 6+ rated trails in Moab (but honestly, most likely will stick to 1-4 rated most of the time). Lift, 33's (maybe 35's), and some sort of aftermarket skids. I like that Ram offers 3.92 gearing with a locker now. But doing those mods would give me enough capability for what I am looking to do with it, keep the truck light, and my wallet happy.

I am a Ford guy... but I can't stand the look of a Ford (or any truck really) made in the last 10 years. Truth be told a F-150 is probably what I "need" but I can scroll page after page and none of them do anything for me. I can't put my finger on exactly why, they all look generic which probably doesn't help.

PW is kinda neat in that I can use it for a family offroader, having a two seater with a kid and two dogs kinda complicates things. Ram had about the last good looking truck IMO. I can still haul my tractors/do farm stuff and even go cross country hauling my Ranger if I want. It is kind of a one stop shop.

But it is a Ram and PW's command a premium, I could ditch the off road stuff and get a Cummins for the same or less money and the thought of that complicates things too. But Ram is a little out of my comfort zone so far...

Back up three times and punt more parts at what I have for now I guess.

A very desirable feature when one lives in Iowa!

New Ford’s are ok. My favorite in the past decade is 2011-2014 FX4 pkg. I was somewhat intrigued in getting one with a 6.2L. That would be cool but probably overkill.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I owned an 02 GMC Sierra then bought a 14 Ram 1500, now in a 19 superduty. Never been a ford guy but I think they're the best looking of the bunch at the moment.

I agree the new Fords are by far the best looking of any new truck. I still favor the 78-79 F150 body style but new SD are beautiful in my eye.

They can be not bad. Chromed out kills them though, the massive front end looks even more massive then. Either way the 16+ SD's are too much $$ for me yet on the used market.

Most you see in real life are chromed out XLT+ or XL fleet trucks that barely have pneumatic tires.

99-03 SD is my favorite, they are all like 20 years old with half a million miles on them though.

An alternate option here is to not let vanity drive your equipment purchase decisions. I don't know about the rest of you but I can't even see the outside of my truck from the inside.
true but I like to get out my vehicles once and a while and I find great pleasure in parking far away from my destination so I can admire my vehicle when i am walking back to it. Heck I go out to my garage often to just to stare at my recon.
