Who tows with a diesel Colorado ?

I was getting 8MPG towing a 6x12 enclosed trailer (F150 2.7L Ecoboost). But I was also going 75-80MPH. If I bring it down to 65MPH, I'm at around ~12 MPG. Which is what I expect.

Size of the Colorado would surely be welcome, though. Finding parking spots at times down right stinks. Need one of these systems.
I've gotten pretty good at parking a long bed dually, although I have learned usually to back in or I'll be stuck. I'm looking forward to my shortbed F350, should be here any day now.

Like I said earlier...30 hwy commuting and teens when towing decent size trailer sure would be nice. Willing to bet you could squeak out 25 hwy with a Habitat and a small open trailer for the bikes.

After operating big equipment earlier in life...don't really want to go back to that. The midsizes seem about the Goldilocks size of vehicles...not too small, not too big. Need to haul larger things from time to time supplement it with a trailer.

As much I as think people need to have good driving skills...that auto parking is pretty cool. Autonomous vehicles sure would cut down on traffic accidents. Seems like there are at least 3-4 times a week on my work commute where people run out of talent, and cause the traffic to back up.

Old term from the racing days...usually said when someone blows a corner. ;)

now-a-days...on public roads it is "usually" people not paying attention fiddling with their phones I would assume.

LOL This thread turned into quite the read ! LOL

Power Wagon is NOT worn out. LOL It only has 45k on it. Rode the motorcycle a lot while working to purposely keep the mileage down. I am Retired now. But honestly, 3-10 mpg (depending on what it's doing) is bad. Love the truck but not the mileage. I knew that going in. But if fuel hits $4-$5 per gallon or more, it becomes an issue. And I can't see fuel going down in price. We want to travel a LOT, out west, Cali, Oregon, etc.

We no longer have the 30' Toy Hauler. It weighed 10,500 lbs loaded up. Power Wagon pulled it just fine. But kids are now grown & gone. So we traded it on our 18' Starcraft AR ONE EXTREME, which IMHO is not extreme at all, but it does give us the ground clearance to get off the beaten path. Places our Toy Hauler would never go. It weighs 3500 lbs empty. We do travel with a full 26 gal fresh water tank.

Wife is going to retire in April. She needs a new vehicle anyways. Our thoughts are: If we could find something that she is comfortable driving but still be able to tow the camper on long hauls & get decent mileage doing it, it would be a winner, winner, chicken dinner. She has her eye on a Subaru Outback wagon. I priced one out between $38-$42,000. Same ball park as a Colorado. So, that is why I am asking how it tows. Probably too good to be true. Wife probably will say it's still too big. Time will tell. Thanks for the replies. Some of them are pretty funny.

Based on the reviews you guys posted, It looks like it would tow our camper with ease & get at least double (maybe even triple) the mpg's doing it, compared to my PW. I have done trips where I average 6 mpg towing a measly 3500 lb camper, LOL.

I have yet to test drive the diesel Colorado, but have the gasser. Tell ya, it drives super nice...car like. Think it is a great compromise between a car and fullsize truck. It should be able to eat up those long highway miles out West here with ease.

Long time Toyota fan, but think a I like the Colorado a smidge better than the Tacoma.

It was only a question if it was or not. Had no clue really. Wondering if you wanted to save money or just are wanting something different. Sounds like you just want something different so your wife can enjoy driving too.

My wife has an Outback. Loves it. Size is right for day to day stuff. Colorado is huge in comparison. But if your wife can handle the size, that'd be a good set up for you. Pending it tows like you want. I know there are people that are happy with how it tows. But "happy" is relative. I'd be interested to know how many came from 3/4 ton trucks.

Maybe you can split the middle. Sell the PW and get a Ram 1500 ecodiesel. :sombrero:

Thats the color I like. Light interior?
Whats with GM only offering ventilated seats in Denali Trim and only ugly black interior? Sweaty work boot guys would love ventilated seat option in the base model!

The color is Brownstone with the Coco Dune interior. Chevy only had the black interior so I went with the GMC.

Yep, no kids = midsize. Or even "mini" like you've got. I wouldn't mind building up an old '83 Pick up and stuff a 3rz in it. "Someday dreams" that will never happen. :D

I'm looking to replace our 10 Outback limited with the canyon SLT or Denali. Nearly identical width. The Subaru Limited interior is between the SLT and the Denali in quality. Our limited 2.5 was 28k. I would never pay over 35k for an outback. The 3.6 is right around 35k

If fuel hits $4.50 a gallon again one long trip at 15 to 20 mpg instead of 3 to 6 mpg could damn near pay for the trip in fuel savings.

Ha ha!...yeah those dream "someday" builds....I have a couple hundred of those rolling around in my head. But in reality, I just want to get in turn the key and go, not getting any younger...want less time in the garage and more time on the road.

Maybe because I am hitting middle age...I am starting to look at the bright red ones.

Posting this again...well, ohh....looky look...red....shiny!

Think that is a good trade...now you just need to do it! ;) :D

I know! I have some buddies who say...yeah gas is kinda cheap, who cares what the mileage is. Hell one of them told me to buy a Prius if I wanted good gas mileage. Why wouldn't want both!? A truck and good mileage!

I drive about 60,000 miles a year, I get real attuned to gas prices quick. LOL My Tacoma doesnt shake me up too bad at 19 mpg, but the Nissan Xterra I was driving got about 15 mpg on a good day. At the height of the gas prices I switched to a Honda CRV. Sold the X at a good price and the difference in fuel cost was like getting a pay raise. The Tacoma I have now was my weekend driver and when the CRV wore out, I slipped the taco in to daily driver. About next year I will have to have a new daily driver, looking hard at the Canyon though after being with Toyota so long, the reliability of the GM product scares me a little.

Whew! I thought I drove a lot...I do about 24K/year.

Yeah I hear you on the long term Toyota owner thing...I have only had 3 personal trucks over the last 25 years and they were all Toyotas. Owned the Tacoma going 15 years now, currently sitting at 340K....definitely getting long in the tooth, keep on saying...next year I'll need to buy a new truck, and another year rolls past. Colorado is catching my eye...wished it had a manual trans...but oh well. The reliably of the GM does concern me, but maybe I need to start being like everyone else and trade it in every 5 years.

Kinda waiting to see what Ford does with the Ranger...so maybe next year. ;) :D

My last 3 trucks have been toyotas. None of them have been as trouble free and low cost as the Fords and GMs in the Family. I'm not really brand specific. More like model vs price and options specific. The Canyon is the only midsized rig I'd have half a chance of my wife / err finance officer approving of. Primarily due to ride quality and power passenger seat. Mileage would also be a big bonus given the wifes ride gets 72mpg in the winter and around 80mpg in the summer. She does about 25k yr. She also has a very impressive high end interior with cooled seats I would love to see in a midsized truck.
