Wild mushrooms

Anybody else into it. It may be epic this fall!

So far aspen boletes, orange and white birch boletes, bears ear, pig ear, hedgehogs and a few chantrelles!

Angel wings, Cauliflower, assorted boletus, giant puffballs and of course chicken of the woods. Too bad I don't have access to reindeer to digest the Amanitas for me......

Would honestly love to know which are edible and safe.

Can someone knowledgeable share a couple resources? Would love to have a good photo/print book reference and a website or two. We have property and I have seen some out there, but never touched anything but morels.

Go very slow at first. Maybe chanterelles (this time of year), and morels in the spring. Then maybe add boletes. Try to find a local mushrooming group to go out with. Just go slow and never eat what your not 100% positive about.

With knowlege it's very safe, humans have been foraging since ...we'll forever.

It's a great lifelong pastime, and great knowledge to pass along.

1st one COULD be milk cap or cortina???

2nd maybe zellers bolete???

3 and 4 ????

5 probable russula???


Never eat with ANYTHING that remotely looks like 6 .....Could be a destroying angel or death cap.= liver failure and death.

Really impossible to safely say what any of them are unless you have about 5~8 data points on any mushroom.


Just takes time patience and repetition. Good luck and check out the Arora books for out west.

Do it you won't regret it:)

I've actually been thinking about cultivating mushrooms lately - would make an interesting winter crop, since the garden is about done for the year.

I'm not sure I'm ready to jump into eating wild mushrooms, but if I could grow some of the more interesting varieties myself that might be cool. From what I've read it doesn't seem that difficult (kind of like making beer - avoid contamination and it will come out fine)

Yep. And honestly, shroomery / mushroom style forums are an awesome resource.

Yeah, been reading those. And lately I've been into arduino programming so I have this idea of setting up an arduino to control temperature/humidity/etc to make it worry free (and also indulge my geekness).
 
Big one I saw earlier this summer. Oh and that's an oak growing up through it.
