This is an image of a bald eagle that I photographed in a location I never expected to see an eagle in - west central Indiana on the Wabash River just north of Terre Haute. It was shot handheld, with a 600mm lens, in a rolling, rocking 17 foot aluminum boat. Just keeping the bird in the viewfinder was a major achievement, but it is the best of several frames, and does clearly demonstrate the bald eagles have returned to the Wabash River basin, where there were none to be seen for years and years.
I have lots of better images of eagles, all shot in Alaska, or Colorado, or Montana, but none better from Indiana yet. I saw several juvenile eagles on the river that day as well, so hallelujah!
